I mentioned Jake Plummer because he was the only QB from Idaho I could think of that had showed interest in Stanford and went on to be highly successful. The fact that his recruitment was more than 25 years ago "pretty much tells you all you need to know".

Colson Yankoff was a high 4* from Idaho, camped with us, and wanted an offer pretty bad. (We had already offered and stuck with Jack West and Tanner McKee signing for '20.) He's in the portal now from UW so "highly successful" probably ain't happening but who knows, there's plenty of time.

But Steve Cottell was.   Pretty sure.  He may have come to play baseball

RC Owens and Elgin Baylor did quite well at College of Idaho.

So did I Bob.  (But not to their stratospheric levels.)  I was a walk-on who went on to captain the
Basketball team prior to leaving to study at  Stanford.

If he is would he be the first one since Plummer?

Nope. Taysom Hill. We also offered Brock Osweiler, who was quite good in college, but I'm not sure if the interest was mutual.

Forgot about Taysom. You know what they say about memory. Second thing to go.
I always wondered why Taysom didn't know about Stanford's enrollment rules before he signed. I guess he forgot to ask and we forgot to tell him.

In actual commit news, Long Snappers are people too!

Excellent. Will be direly needed with McGraduation. Hope the coaches have told him to be ready to start! (This supposes walk-on Kyle Petrucci does not excel enough to become the starter, which, of course, he may.)

I'm guessing that if you are a half way decent athlete and spend enough time practicing long snapping you can become reasonably proficient at it. Experts, am I wrong?

RE: Class of 2020 - OutsiderFan - 05-16-2019

Is it possible news of a highly coveted RB recruit leaning to Stanford is more noteworthy than a Long Snapper commitment?
https://n.rivals.com/news/5-schools-pushing-hardest-for-rivals100-ath-ej-smith

Pretty sure EJ Smith's family can afford to take a trip to Stanford on their own dime. That's good because it seems the fact they did may have put Stanford in pole position to land this Top nationally rated All Purpose RB (#2 on Rivals, #4 on 247) and son of HOF RB Emmit Smith.

RE: Class of 2020 - BobK - 05-16-2019

Smith has been to Stanford recently

Hey, Brock Osweiler was from Montana, at least HS-wise. He accepted a basketball scholarship at Gonzaga before taking a football scholarship at ASU.

Wiki: "Born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Osweiler was raised by his parents, Kathy and John Osweiler, in Kalispell, Montana. Osweiler attended Flathead High School in Kalispell."

Another running back. Does this meen we aren’t in the running for Emmet’s son or are we just doing for running backs what we are unwilling to do for QB’s (more than one offer a year).

No idea where we stand with Smith, but we're obviously willing to offer, and take, more than one RB per class.

Though it hasn't happened since way back in '19.

RE: Class of 2020 - OutsiderFan - 05-24-2019

I don't know if this is related, but the #1 rated APB in the class just committed to Notre Dame yesterday. Chris Tyree had a Stanford offer.  Drennen II is the #5 ranked APB, while Smith is #4.

Reading between the lines, it seems Stanford seems to be favoring RBs who are proven pass catchers of late.  Austin Jones* and Nathaniel Peat fit that bill.  So too do EJ Smith and Michael Drennen II.

* Jones was listed as just a RB (not APB) as a recruit, but you can see him catching passes a plenty in his highlight videos.
