RE: Class of 2020 - BobK - 12-12-2019

we have lost athletes in other sports with 4.0 or better who couldn't get the needed SAT or ACT score.

So 3 scholarship DL are possible in this class, and Berzins would be 4 DL bodies.

Wow, that's good to know and somewhat encouraging.

Berzins is an OL (247 is wrong), but we have a "high-quality" PWO DL target named Zephron Lester who has offers from Army, UMass, and Temple.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of SAT score is required for a football player to be admitted? Is there a firm cut-off at some point, or is it a sliding scale, taken into account along with other academic factors?  How much higher do we think Stanford's SAT cut-off would be than, say, Cal's?

Each case is different, but you can imagine some cases where it seems a shame to lose a guy that works incredibly hard, takes his APs and posts a great GPA in honors classes... all due to a test score.

I talked to a guy who was being recruited by Stanford a couple of years ago and he was told he needed a 26 on the ACT (which converts to about a 1230 SAT). Not sure whether this was a general rule or specific to him.

RE: Class of 2020 - BostonCard - 12-12-2019

Steve Durrett (rest in peace) had a sliding scale that used GPA and SAT and was fairly predictive of whether a player would get in. I believe that the scale was used during the Mamlett years to convince our provost that there in fact had been a significant increase in the admissions criteria for athletes during her reign.

Miss Steve Durrett.

+1

Steve's formula was 300xGPA + 2 part SAT.  generally over 2200 in play but borderline.  over 2300 generally more admittable.  over 2400 rare to get a ding.  this formula generally held except for the Robin's reign of terror years.

back in the day we had some good exchanges on this board regarding the Robin changes, the impact on sports and then with Dean Shaw when he succeeded her.  Shaw returned more to previous standards for admissions.

In memory of Steve. Anna, his wife, comes to all the wvb and WBB games and chalk talks. Wonderful person

Does she bring his camera?  I recall he would post a wonderful series of images from BB and FB games.

On the plus side, you have to like Drake Metcalf's attitude. You can watch him tomorrow night vs. De La Salle in the state championship game.

Flipped from Wazzu. Brother Alohi is a safety at ND.

RE: Class of 2020 - OutsiderFan - 12-14-2019

This Gilman reportedly has offers from Oregon, USC, and Cal, but curiously not UW or ND. This seems to be a commit nobody was expecting, correct?

Strange quote for this type of announcement.  Is Stanford the new village?  Is he the child?  Weird

Everyone paying $9.99 a month knew about this.

He's thanking his "supporters" -- family, friends, etc. -- for raising him to be what he has become.

More very good news. Jones was a possible door #1 casualty, and he did the necessary work to get admitted. Congratulations to Brandon!

RE: Class of 2020 - martyup - 12-14-2019

Can someone pin a summary of this recruiting class at the top of this thread? Or, a link to a site.

Awesome. Four-star corner with offers from Oregon, SC, and Michigan. Needed. A lot.
