Yeah, with ND making the CFP while we go to minor bowl games they are going to become a tougher and tougher recruiting adversary.

I'm not sure to whom BobK and JohnR34231 are referring, but we hadn't even offered the kid (QB Buchner?), right? So I don't see how this is a lost battle with ND, although I would be happy to learn more. And if we do offer the prospect, then there is a precedent of players flipping from ND to Stanford...

Buchner and Pennsylvania QB Kyle McCord are our 2 top 2021 QB targets. (This is public knowledge if you search through Twitter follows.) Buchner attended our junior day last weekend (his second or third time visiting, and after which Tobin Phillips committed), and my guess is the staff told him we're not ready to make an offer yet so he committed to ND. I don't blame the staff on this one; he threw 37 varsity passes as a freshman and tore his ACL before his sophomore season. The last time we offered a sophomore QB was Jack West, who didn't churn out insane varsity stats as a senior as expected.

RE: Class of 2020 - Papa John - 03-11-2019

Thanks for the clarification, SMF. So it sounds even more like this is not so much a loss to ND as it is a situation where the fit between player and Stanford--for whatever reason--is not there, at least not at this time.

Since this is the 2020 recruiting thread, I'd be curious to know what Stanford vs. ND recruiting battles are ongoing.

Not all of our internal targets are offered this early (in fact, most are not) and not all of our offers are public.

6’6” 205 lbs.  I see a lot of box out moves in goal line situations in his future.

Humphreys doesn't have elite straight line speed, but has more quick twitch athleticism than any big Stanford WR I can remember.

The 2020 class is shaping up to be pretty darn good.  Another guy who has been a Stanford lean for a while is Top Safety prospect Lathan Ransom. Might he be an early commit as well?

Probably not an early commit, given that he just now cut his list to 14.

Then again, maybe he will cut the other 13 pretty quickly.  I don't think Hulk still does his HOT (Hulk Offer Theory) metric, but with offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Texas, Washington, etc. could this guy be one of the historic HOT scorers?

Well, he says he plans to get it down to five by the end of July. So while anything is possible, I wouldn't count on a quick decision from him.
FWIW, 247Sports says Stanford and Ohio State are the current leaders.

This might be Stanford’s best recruiting class to worst season record ratio in history.

This year seems to be shaping up to be Shaw’s worst on the field, but may be his best off it?

RE: Class of 2020 - Phogge - 03-28-2019

Don’t forget Bill McColl who lined up tight most of the time . Fourth in the Voldemort in 1951.

RE: Class of 2020 - PVTree - 03-29-2019

Evan Moore and Devon Cajuste...2 former Cardinal receivers who played TE in Cleveland. Cajuste recently retired.

a solid verbal from a 4-star tight end. always nice.
looks like our quarterback (whoever that is) will have several good targets to throw to from this class.

Our next kicker is unreal.
