I don’t know. While I believe FG should get 1 pt for hitting the upright, While this is not the case, I prefer my kickers to avoid them at all cost. Would rather see the kid kicking between narrower uprights like Morten Andersen used to do.

This year seems to be shaping up to be Shaw’s worst on the field, but may be his best off it?

How quickly we forget the 2009 class.

Shayne Skov, Zach Ertz, Terrence Stephens, Stepfan Taylor, Tyler Gaffney, and the list goes on. That recruiting class was ranked 21 overall and 3 in the PAC-12 following a 5-7 2008 season.

I’m seeing 2020 as maybe top 15 possibilities. But they do need to pull a couple more 25+ offer guys to make it happen. They seem to be really speeding up the timetable for commits as much as they possibly can, which is a good thing, and may even be a tacit admission this year will be rough on the field?

RE: Class of 2020 - BostonCard - 03-30-2019

the timetable is moving up generally because of the early signing period, though having six committed players this early is unusual, even since the early signing period has been implemented.

Still think that way before the ratings system the best class was the Vow Boys with multiple College Hall of Famers (Grayson, Reynolds, Moscrip, Hamilton). The great and recently deceased Big Red of the Bootleg was a regular, biking from the Richmond District to the SP terminal on Third Street thence train to the Stadium Stop for the afternoon games. Heard many stories as I drove him to Stanford 2009-2015.

Disagree completely about the "tacit admission," although do agree that the year may be rough on the field. Just not correlated at all, as much as you want them to be.

Having every signee from last year's class done in December (no February signees) gave the staff more opportunity to focus on visits and communication with the 2020 folks, which I believe has helped a bunch. And whatever the hell happened with 2018 seems to have given the staff a little bit of a kick in the behind.

agreed.  BR has been missed.

RE: Class of 2020 - Redrum - 04-01-2019

While we're sort of on the subject...how are things on the Bootleg?   They've obviously survived, but...thrived?  Still have enough gurus and mavens and conversations that make it worthwhile?  Now that the dust has long settled, got a read on which, of the Sports Report or Bootleg, came out as the plurality choice in the commercial wars?

RE: Class of 2020 - Phogge - 04-01-2019

RJ was ordered by the owner to dump the CEB so political talk shifted to Thunderdome. A bunch of “conservatives” do battle with a couple of Lefties while a cocky geezer lends his own version of reality and a former slow footed shooting guard provides some humor. If you want to talk Stanford football don’t go near there. Have no idea of things beyond the paywall. Could be Estonia, Iceland or French Guyana over there.

RE: Class of 2020 - BobK - 04-02-2019

Actually the Sears Board and the private FB and MBB are very good if you enjoy recruiting.

RE: Class of 2020 - Phogge - 04-02-2019

Come on Bobbbbbbb. It’s the Ted Board.

Will be interesting to see how the recruiting sites assess this.  Nobody believed EJ Smith and Stanford could be a thing leading up to his visit. Will it now be seen as one after he visited?

I’m a nobody I guess. Well sling with the Stanford coaches. Most might be more appropriate than nobody

Hey Bob, is he being recruited as a wide receiver, running back or both?

He's being recruited as a "Christian McCaffrey." (Not a joke. RB who can be a receiving threat.)

That's why I asked; he is listed as an all-purpose back, but he has very good receiving skills.
