Season Ticket Renewals - Snorlax94 - 02-04-2019

I was curious about the price for season ticket renewals. In a recent email, the AD mentioned that renewals would begin 2/7, but there was no word on price. So I checked on GoStanford, and to my surprise (!!), football season ticket prices will hold steady from 2018.

I was pleasantly surprised. Because there is a loaded schedule with 7 home games, this effectively translates into a 14% price cut for (generally) much more attractive games. Even parking passes will cost the same for 7 games.

It makes me curious about what's happening at other schools, particularly Pac-12 teams.  I wonder whether the poor attendance at the Clemson-Alabama championship game made the AD recognize the weak college football demand in the Bay Area.

That's a nice change. Usually prices would go up for the good odd-year schedule then stay level for the even-year, slowly ratcheting them over time. Given the realities of modern sports attendance, and especially at Stanford, it makes sense to keep costs lower.

I have a feeling that someone did the calculation at Stanford and realized that they are at the revenue maximizing point.  Increase ticket prices more and the decline in attendance offsets the price increases.

This is not a not a selfless act.

of course everything about tickets is for revenue maximization (they may get it wrong sometimes, but that's always the goal).
They don't normally charge for women's gymnastics, but when UCLA and viral sensation Katelyn Ohashi came to visit two weekends ago, they saw the chance to sell 6,000 tickets and make a quick buck. As they should.

The higher price tickets, which are the ones most in demand, are under continuing pressure, because the required tax deductions are no longer deductible. They made some adjustments to the contributions last year, but I am sure this issue is putting a lid on price increases in the near-term (particularly as people are just now filing there first tax returns with limited state tax deductions and no seat contribution deductions).
