Question about Stanford baseball - Mick - 03-20-2019

I'm a big fan of Stanford baseball. 12-3 record, terrific hitting, pitching and fielding, very strong schedule.

Here's something I don't quite understand: why Nick Bellafronto doesn't start, or play more. Second highest batting average on the team, third highest OPS (of anyone with three or more ABs), goes five for ten against Fullerton State with three RBI and three runs scored. 11 chances, zero errors at 3B. On the other hand, three of the starters are batting less than .200, including the current 3B.

What am I missing?

When Kinnamon was out Bellafronto started. Tawa is a brobdingnagian proven talent at 3B. Kinnamon and Dieter at SS and 2nd are the best three players. Depth is great

With respect Bob, Kinnamon hasn't had an extra base hit all year, and is hitting .278. Tawa's batting .182 and has three doubles in 60 ABs. Bellafronto's batting .333 (five of 10 against Fullerton State) and has three doubles in 18 ABs. Tawa's OBP is .219, Bellafronto's is .429. Tawa and Kinnamon have both made errors in the field, Bellafronto hasn't made any errors.

Objectively, Bellafronto's performance is far superior to the other two players. I guess I just don't understand it.

Seven games in a row against unranked teams. Here's to 20-3 after those seven games!

Coach believes that Tawa and Kinamon, proven talents, will start hitting and need at bats to do it.

If we need hits late, Bellafronto is a nice asset.

Willie Mays started 0 for 20. Leo saw something and struck with him. AB 21 was a HR of Warren Spann Sometimes coaches know things

Tonight showed why Kinamon is in the lineup. He was the difference maker in the win over the Utes. 2-3 with a double, walk, and stolen base. He also scored three runs including one on an incredibly heads-up play where he scored from second on a double play ball when Utah’s first baseman didn’t notice him rounding third quickly enough.

Another relatively quiet night for Tawa but I’m not giving up on him yet. There’s a reason he was a 1st Team Freshman All-American.

Beavers lost 2-3 to Cal, Time for the voters to realize 2018 is over--
and replace them with #10 ASU, still undefeated after killing Oregon, 12-2.

#4 Mississippi State. #7 Louisville, and #8 Georgia lost.
Texas lost

UCLA, Stanford, Vandy, ASU look like the real top four, then NC State perhaps.

We're in very good shape for the next two games.
We'e faced their closest thing to an ace. (4.30 ERA).
Their next three starters: 6.23, 6.75, 7.75.
The Utes also used perhaps their best reliever (1.38 ERA) last night,
31 pitches, so he won't be used today.

Still with fingers crossed for Dasch, Stowers, and Tawa;

Durocher stuck with Mays even when Willie came crying and wanted to be sent down. Leo told him he was his guy and get back out there. After the homer off Spahn Durocher was quoted saying, “The rest of the way he carried us on his back.”

Willie has been a little boy and a whiner all his life. Ted Williams was a hero and a real life John Wayne. I prefer Williams.

I played against Sandberg in HS. Great all-around athlete with tremendous speed. He was taken late in the '78 Draft, something like the 27th round. I think his late selection may have had to do with his signing a LOI to play QB for WSU. The Phillies made a brobdingnagian blunder by trading him. Of course, he returned to Philadelphia to manage the team, but with little success. Interestingly, my childhood friend and teammate, Rex Hudler, was taken in Rd. 1 by the Yankees in that same draft, turning down a scholarship to play WR for Notre Dame. It took Rex six years to debut in MLB, the same year Sandberg won National League MVP.
