When he goes 0-18 in conference (Vandy). On the other hand, Vandy's third-year WBB coach went 2-15 against conference opponents and is still there.
(a combined 2-33 this year in conference basketball games: sheesh. At least we've got our women!)

I think that was the point.  The question is when do you fire a BB after his third season?  The answer, as given by oldalum is "When he goes 0-18 in conference"

Apparently the Weenies think differently. Wyking Jones out as MBB HC. I was wondering what took them so long.

yes we've raised the bar to 3-15 after 2 years. But the point really is that record isn't everything (unless it's 0-16); the Cal A.D. saw some improvement in fits and starts but did not see a  "wide path" to becoming exceptional. Another factor is that Wyking Jones had never been a head coach, let alone a successful head coach, so one might pull the trigger faster if he showed clear signs of not being head coach level. By contrast, Vandy's 2-15 women's head coach had been a successful WNBA head coach who had moved to college coaching for family/lifestyle reasons.

In addition to reportedly being a "basketball guy," Muir has been seeing film on a lot of good teams as part of the NCAA Selection Committee. I suspect he has a very good handle on where we are now and how likely we are to get much better. YMMV from his of course

Yeah, Jones was fired after two years at Cal, but he "led" the Bears to two last-place finishes in the Pac-12 and a 5-29 conference record.

...and a victory [almost two] over Haase's team this season... :-(

I don't think the "Muir's a basketball guy" argument holds water anymore.
