Call me a cynic, but probably not the worst thing to happen. Nothing to be gained from a win, just the potential for an ugly loss.
For what it’s worth, here is what D1Baseball had to say about our prospects for a top 8 seed in its chat today:
Mark: What has to happen to have Beavs or Cardinal top 8 seed?
Kendall Rogers: Personally, I think either the Cardinal or Beavers have to win the Pac 12 regular season crown, and I just don’t see the pathway right now unless UCLA stinks it up the final weekend of the regular season. I would have teams like Texas Tech, ECU and even Oklahoma State ahead of those two teams in the pecking order. Not impossible, but difficult to get there, IMO.

I'm not quite sure that's cynical, but there is a decent chance that even a win over Pacific (23-26) would lower our RPI. While I am under the general impression that at this point the RPI train has left the station, I do note:
that the loss to the Beavs dropped Stanford by 0.004,
Stanford is currently at #16, 0.003 out of 12th, 0.009 out of 9th,
a road wins counts as 1.4 wins (as the loss to the Beavs was 1.4 losses),
ASU still has a pretty good overall record (36-15) which will help with the opponents' record half of the RPI.
With the midweek game off, I wonder what they'll do with Williams. I was thinking he'd be the fourth starter in the regional, though I suppose they could bring Palisch back to that role. Palisch has pitched quite well out of the pen lately.

The slightly odd thing is he doesn't appear to actually believe what he writes. He's part of the staff that has voted Stanford at #4, Texas Tech #10, ECU #8 and Oklahoma State #11. So, which is it?

In today’s projected bracket from D1Baseball, we are a #12 seed just behind #11 Oregon State. The other teams in our regional are UNC, Indiana State and Harvard. Our regional is paired with the Fayetteville regional as Arkansas is the projected #5 seed.
That is a particularly daunting path to Omaha so hopefully we can at least take two of three from the Devils to bolster our case. Beginning last season, the committee started seeding teams 9-16 so every spot is consequential. Even if we don’t break the top 8, a trip to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech (the current projected #8 seed) is much less formidable than Fayetteville.

Unranked Wichita State beat #9 East Carolina in the AAC Tournament today. ECU is one of Stanford’s competitors for the #8 seed.

By not playing, Stanford's RPI dropped 0.001 to 0.589, though our placement held steady at #16. I know both U$C and Oregon lost to non-conference foes we did not play, so that could be the origin of the point drop.
Oregon State dropped .002 I think, to 0.590 and is in a virtual tie with West Virginia one spot ahead of us.
ECU is at 0.609 and #5. We won't catch them in RPI, but I know many are suspicious of the quality of the AAC so they could be in some danger.
My general suspicion is that even by winning out, Stanford won't rise above #11 in RPI. Teams within reach for us to pass include Oregon State, WVU, Texas AM, UCSB, and Tennessee.
So, the question will remain as to what the committee thinks of this measure - or more likely whether they are willing to act in consideration of its well known flaws.

Texas A&M rallied to win in extra innings yesterday over Florida in the SEC Tournament but lost this morning to Georgia. I'm guessing that loss won't do much harm to their RPI as Georgia is #3 in RPI. West Virginia beat Kansas this morning and Tennessee lost its play-in game yesterday to Auburn.
In other games of note, Louisville lost to Boston College and Texas Tech is up early on Kansas State. Would be nice if ECU went 0-2 in the AAC Tournament - they just started an elimination game vs. Houston.
