Sounds like a good hire. He's young, so it's kind of a speculative hire, but he's well-regarded. He graduated from Northeastern, where he was most recently an assistant for the head coach under whom he rowed. We'll see if the Buffalo, NY native can adapt his east coast ways to Stanford.

I don't follow men's rowing closely, but I have the impression that Northeastern is a top 10 program, perhaps better than Stanford. Is that right?

Yes, Northeastern Men's Rowing is significantly better than Stanford. The annual James Ten Eyck award ranks the teams. For the last three years, Northeastern has finished 8th, 6th, and 7th respectively. Stanford has finished 16th, 13th, and 14th respectively.
