Baseball trivia - Mick - 07-25-2019

Everyone knows that the Baltimore was the last team with four 20 game winners. Palmer, McNally, and Dobson won 20, Cuellar won 21.

Has any other team had four twenty game winners?

Don’t know but what was the last team to have four HOFamers on its pitching staff?

RE: Baseball trivia - BobK - 07-25-2019

I’ll bet none since 1920.

Or before 1920.  The 1920 Chicago White Sox retained their two 1919 cheaters for all but the last week of the 1920 season, Herb "Lefty" Williams and Eddie Cicotte.  Cicotte had 21 wins as did Dickey Kerr.  Williams had 22.  Red Faber had 23.

BTW, the narrative was always that Charles Comiskey, owner of the White Sox/Black Sox, was a miserly skinflint.  In truth, his team payroll was third in the league, and four of his players were paid in the Top 16 in the league:

Still...the White Sox were in both the 1917 and 1919 world series.  They wouldn't finish better than fifth until Charles Comiskey died (3rd), then wouldn't make another world series while the Comiskey family owned the team.  Bill Veeck bought the Sox in 1958, they went to the WS in 1959.

July 30 marks the 60th anniversary of what memorable game in baseball history?

How many Hall of Famers suited up that day? (One didn’t play.)

McCoveys debut?

Palmer, btw, was one of the 5 pitchers with a career era lower than Messersmith. Phogge and Bob got three others- Kershaw, Koufax and Ford. The other one is Hoyt Wilhelm. Marichal close at 2,89. Gibson 2.91. No one is close to Kershaw. He is probably the greatest regular season pitcher ever.

I know Giants had at least 3 with Marichal, Perry and Spahn. 64 or 65. Did they have a 4th?

Last Hall of Famer a utility infielder and former LA Angel 2B with Steve Bilko and all

RE: Baseball trivia - Phogge - 07-26-2019

Sparky Anderson.

And lost in all this was my question re four HOF's on same staff.

Indians in '54, '55 with Wynn, Lemon, Feller and Newhouser.

Plus Bobbbbbbbbb, Don Mossi died the other day. 91. Saw him pitch against the Seals on an exhibition tour prior to either the '54 or '55 season. Feller would not sign any autographs for us kids along the first base box seats pregame.

RE: Baseball trivia - BobK - 07-26-2019

Don “the ears” Mossi. He shared the last 3 innings with ?

Feller and Newhouser shared the starting spot in the days of 4 man rotation
Who was the Indians other starter?

RE: Baseball trivia - Phogge - 07-26-2019

Ray Narleski and Mike Garcia.

RE: Baseball trivia - BobK - 07-26-2019
