Good for him! I hope he sees a record amount of action this year. . . .

So far. Punters will become available off the waiver wire. I suspect Bailey sticks. But no guarantee.

Agreed that he sticks. If you spend a 5th rounder on a punter, I think you're pretty invested in him becoming the guy, as long as he doesn't completely blow it in camp. And from the sounds of it, he's been pretty good, so it's working out as New England hoped. But you know Belichick won't keep him around if he doesn't perform, so I wouldn't ever feel too secure in my job there if I were Jake.

LOL thanks for correcting the title. Wayward apostrophes make me cringe.
I’m old enough to have seen Ray Guy kick. In every way, he was “the guy.” Heck of an athlete, also played safety and even QB in college. He had a broken leg his senior year and the Raiders still drafted him in the first round, #23 overall. He was the Raiders’ emergency QB in case George Blanda went down.
I don’t remember which domed stadium, but he was the only kicker to hit a roof fixture there.

Heard nothing but great things on and off the field about the young man. As really he can punt, and kickoff, and hold and be an emergency F.G. kickers should Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski go down. But do not know if he will handle KO's for Patriots as Stephen G says he would like to handle them as it gets him out in the field more often than a F.G. or extra point. But still Jake could handle them in 2020. If Stephen stinks at F.G. missing back to back in preseason games.

Curious: what do they evaluate for punters that isn’t already known from college stats? Out of all positions on the field it seems most easily described by statistics e.g. angle, hang time, distance, accuracy. Less fit with team’s specific system, intangibles, handling pressure of game situations, etc.
Beyond this are they mostly evaluating general attitude, trusting own eyes rather than film, making sure the player shows up in shape, etc.? What else do they learn in training camp?

Bailey screwed up a hold last night. I was only able to watch the second half of the game, and not closely at that, but he clearly put the laces right on Gostkowski's foot, the announcers mentioned it then they cut to the special teams coach yelling at him on the sideline. Fortunately he got another opportunity and did it right.
It's weird, wasn't he Stanford's holder? I thought he did it for all 4 years...

Not quite. Dallas Lloyd held for Ukropina through '16. Bailey held for Toner '17 and '18.
