Say what you want about Wilner, but he does have his finger in the pulse of what is going on with the conference and TV rights.

I think it is interesting, and I agree that the lack of DirectTV deal matters less and less as DirectTV hemorrhages subscribers. The problem I see is that the product will continue to be less attractive to distributors, regardless of the format. There are still fewer people living in the pacific time zone than in the East Coast, and the west coast is less interested in football than the South.

As soon as the Pac-12 Networks offers a standalone streaming subscription I will be turning in my last cable box. My kids use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Youtube for their entertainment, and I would have already joined them there, too, if it wasn't for Stanford sports.

Are Sling or fuboTV options for you? Obviously they aren't standalone, but they don't need a cable box and my impression is that less is bundled in than with typical cable deals.

2024 at the earliest. Current contracts run until then.
Big-time lipstick here from the worst commissioner in all of D1 (Group of 5 included)
By the time they get to where the puck is going, the revenue gaps will have reached over $100M per school. That won't be overcome for another 20 years at least.
Long past time to start over. Fully split the conference and network and hire a separate & distinct CEO for each. Move both of them to much lower-cost cities in the conference footprint.
I've previously been a critic of the private equity model but on second thought it might not be a bad idea. At least then there would be shareholders who actually care about things like cost and profit - unlike University Presidents who often have bigger fish to fry. Having private equity-type shareholders would result in much greater accountability for leadership.
