It's a little disappointing that there is no offensive or defensive lineman deemed worthy enough of being a captain, but very good to see the QB be voted one.

In the captains acceptance speeches to the team, you hear about this team being closer than prior years. If true, that could be important. I would argue that last year's team underachieved and didn't always have everyone pulling in the same direction. Having the majority of the 5th year eligible returners not return and retire from football is further evidence that our veterans last year weren't 100% all in on the program.

I am also surprised that Costello was not named a captain. He seems more animated on the sidelines than most QBs, cheering on his team and firing up the troops.

Kevin Hogan wasn't a captain as a RS Soph, after he started the final 5 games of the previous RS Fr season. (Although he was a captain in his final 2 seasons after that).

For quick comparison:
- KJ Costello was a captain as a RS Soph after starting the final 6 games of the previous RS Fr season
- Keller Chryst was a captain as a RS Jr after starting the final 5 games of the previous RS Soph season
