This week in opponents: Week 1 - washingtonismoney - 08-29-2019

<p>Cincinnati is up 7-0 on UCLA and just missed a short&nbsp;FG to go up 10-0.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>As you might expect the Bearcats' offense is humming and UCLA's is not... (statistically, at least)</p><p><br></p><p>For whatever reason UCLA's star RB Joshua Kelly has not made it in. Possible injury.</p>

<p>Not a big deal if UCLA loses considering they're on the road and Cincinnati won 11 games last season.</p><p><br></p><p>But while I've only seen the last six minutes or so of the half, I don't think I've seen&nbsp;UCLA gain a yard (net) on&nbsp;two three-and-out possessions, plus a&nbsp;play with only a few seconds left that ended in a sack. I am surprised&nbsp;to see their offense look so inept.</p><p><br></p><p>Anyone scouting UCF?</p>

Either Cincinnati has a great d-line or UCLA’s o-line stinks. Also some pretty crummy QB play in this game.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is hot trash at QB for UCLA. That’s the big takeaway from what I saw in that game. Cincy also seemed to win both lines of scrimmage for most part, but haven’t looked at the stats as I type. Probably saw about 3/4 of it, but that is what I concluded when watching.

Great Reddit comment about Dorian Thompson-Robinson: "He's the rare read-option quarterback that can't read-option and can't quarterback."</p>

<p>I am optimistic. I consider Utah a future opponent. They looked good, but I think we will beat them.</p>

RE: This week in opponents: Week 1 - d4cohn - 08-30-2019

<p>So far, UCLA and UA look weaker than expected. However, Colorado (dominant 2nd half&nbsp;against CSU, dropping 52 total points in the contest)&nbsp;and Oregon State (dropping 36 points against Oklahoma State, even if their D gave up 50+ to the Cowboys) look better than expected. In my estimation, two road contests that may have been deemed the easiest of road games coming into the season look far more daunting.</p>

<p>Wisconsin’s Taylor reminds me a bit of Bryce Love.</p><p><br></p><p>BC</p>

<p>The flip side of the dominant second half by Colorado is that they were only up on CSU 23-21 at the half. CSU actually outshined Colorado, but four turnovers will doom you every time.</p><p><br></p><p>BC</p>

<p>Also, Colorado beat CSU 45-13 last year, so I wouldn’t put much stock in that game.</p><p><br></p><p>BC</p>

RE: This week in opponents: Week 1 - d4cohn - 08-31-2019

<p>Colorado was picked to finish last in the Pac-12 South, even behind Arizona, and based on what I saw</p><p>from both teams against MW opponents, I think CU is better than them.</p><p><br></p><p>We also nearly lost on the road to an awful Oregon State team two years ago, so both teams can</p><p>challenge if not beat us if we are not on our game.</p>

RE: This week in opponents: Week 1 - BostonCard - 08-31-2019

UW is having its way with eastern Washington and Easen looks like he will be a good QB for the huskies.  They’re up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Oregon up on Auburn 14-3 early.

If they can keep it up, Pac-12 will be 2-0 against P5 teams.

<p>Wyoming up 27-17 on Missouri at 7 thousand feet above sea level at halftime. Looked like it might be tied 24-24 but Missouri fumbled and Wyoming returned it 85 yards, kicked a field goal, before the end of the half.</p>

RE: This week in opponents: Week 1 - BostonCard - 08-31-2019

Cal pulled it off 27-13.

Oregon is taking Auburn to the woodshed.

<p>Can't say, from the stats and the eyes, any Pac-12 team has been terribly impressive other than Oregon.&nbsp;</p>

RE: This week in opponents: Week 1 - BostonCard - 08-31-2019

Clearly Oregon did the most in terms of going on the road against a ranked opponent and beating them solidly.

Washington did what it was supposed to against an overmatched opponent.

Utah looked pretty good against BYU.

I think our defense surprised to the upside today. Our offense hurt itself with penalties and failures to capitalize.  We probably should have been able to score in the 20’s given our total yards and turnover margin, but lots of places where we stepped in it; failure to convert a fourth and a couple, a punt from the 34, a partially blocked field goal.  This game would feel a lot better off it had finished 27-17 (NW also blew a few chances), even with the same margin. It wasn’t pretty, but NW is a legit P5 opponent, who will likely win 7+ games.
