"At USC camps over the summer, Helton said, Slovis held his own playing side-by-side against quarterbacks who received more buzz on the recruiting circuit. Watching him up close made it easier to see past the relative lack of production and accolades and award him a scholarship.."

Party in the backfield!

From what I read, Slovis thought he should be starting even with a healthy JT.
He apparently doesn't lack confidence.

Can he run? The only effectiveness NW had was when the QB ran - by design or after pass play broke down.

From what I have read, others shared that opinion. It is also true that some thought Jack Sears was a better QB. Based on the Max Browne to San Darnold transition, it could be that Slovis will prove to be an upgrade. We shouldn't assume the contrary. Granted, circumstances are different in this transition, but JT did not seem to be an ideal candidate for an air raid QB. He never seemed to be a quick read type of guy. He for sure had a "wind up". Slovis may be a better fit for that offense. Lets hope not.

from his high school stats it doesn't look like he ran much, 73 carries in 21 games, which could have been the design of the offense

In a bit less than 1/2 of his first game in the Air Raid offense, Daniels was 25 of 34 for 215 yards, with a TD and an INT. He seemed to be doing quite well. As a point of comparison, USC ran 51 offensive plays in the 1H vs. Fresno with Daniels leading the offense. With Slovis in the 2H, they ran 29 plays.

Like Davis Mills, Slovis has little game experience. He will be learning and growing. He'll be developing chemistry with the wide receivers. He'll learn to read coverages and pressure. But I am glad to play a QB with 0 prior starts than one with an entire season of experience.

JT did adapt to the Air Raid, for sure. However, it was not a "natural" fit for him. There was (and is) quite a bit of controversy in the SC fan base about who the best QB during spring and fall camp actually was. JT was, for sure, efficient against Fresno St. He also ran the offense well. Many U$C folks were surprised by how well he played. It is also true that they ran the ball a bit more than other Air Raid teams do, probably because of personnel.

Totally agree here. One narrative making the rounds is that Slovis was chosen as the back-up (instead of Fink or Sears) not because he was the second-best guy, but rather to not have JT looking over his shoulder. No way to know if this has any substance, but it was thought Slovis wouldn't be ready to play this year. That obviously isn't happening!

Slovis was not pressured by Stanford and I am interested to see how he performs when facing a consistent rush of defenders. Regardless, he deserves credit for his record setting maiden starting voyage.

There was a party, but nobody showed up.
