Why Stanford will beat USC -
Mick - 09-07-2019
27-13 Stanford is my guess. Here's some interesting Vegas stats:
- Stanford is 4-2 straight up and 5-1 against the spread in their last six games against SC.
- In our last five games, Stanford is 5-0 and 3-1-1 against the spread.
- Cardinal is 14-4 as an underdog against the spread since 2012.
- Trojans are 2-9 in their last 11 home games against the spread.
- The over is 7-0 in Stanford's last seven games as an underdog.
- As of yesterday, Athlon has reduced the spread to SC as a one point favorite.
And from my own perspective:
- SC's frosh QB will have had all week to practice, and their OC says that they aren't deviating from the game plan. They intend to air it out. Rumors are that Slovis makes suspect passing decisions.
- I suspect they start running it with Malepeai, who had 134 yards running last week. Per LA Times, SC thinks Stanford's defense isn't that great. I beg to differ.
- Hope Rouse steps up. Losing Little is no small thing. I still think Scarlett is capable of some strong running.
- SC's line is strong, DBs, not so strong. Mills could have anywhere from a tough day to an excellent day.
- Stanford's D is potentially awesome. Only four of 12 Northwestern drives got into Stanford territory.
- Adebo is the best cover man in the Pac-12. Period.
- Velus Jones returned a Fresno State kickoff 101 yards.
- FSU's WR's got open frequently against SC's secondary.
- SC coughed up the ball twice in the Red Zone against FSU.
- There was plenty of running room for FSU's QB against SC. Don't recommend that for Mills, but it's there.
- Apart from their starting QB, USC has three injuries; offensive guard Vorhees (foot), frosh wideout Kyle Ford (knee), LB Iosefa (knee).
