Thanks for sharing this.

The angry beavs writer cracks me up — a mix of hopefulness, disappointment, and curmudgeoniness.

Great stuff as usual Hank

Even if Shaw doesn't give up the playcalling duties, he still needs an OC from outside the family. Someone with some different views and ideas that is putting a bug in his ear not only during the game but throughout the week and in camp as they prepare for the season.

On the recruiting front, it bothers me that people keep pointing to ONLY the OL and ONLY to one year. You don't get to the current situation at OL with just one bad year. There wasn't enough contingency planning for medical retirements & transfers. Also, ILB and safety are just as weak as OL and those are also recruiting issues.

This is way more than missing out on a handful of OL targets in 2017.

I don't disagree with this, but I think I'm just more comfortable commenting on what's going on with the offensive line, just because the results there are easier for me to quantify. On the defensive side of the ball, while a more educated eye would be able to give a better evaluation, it's hard for me to separate things. Are teams running the ball better because of the defensive line or because of the linebackers? Is the middle of the field open for the passing game because of the linebackers or the safeties? There are lots of people on this board who have a good handle on what's going on on the defensive side of the ball, but I'm not one of them.

Sadly, those characteristics don't play well here.

Safeties have been horribly out of position and/or missed tackles several times already this season. For Antoine it's a continuation of last season. I'd hoped for improvement after last season since it was his first after being a CB but sadly it's not any better. When we've had guys back there who were safeties in HS, we didn't have these issues.

There's hopefulness?
