My report on yesterday's open practice is on the Fast Break Club site,
www.stanfordfbc.org. When I last checked, the display under Richter Reports still showed the interview with Kate, but it you click on it, you'll see the practice story.

Thank you so much, Judy! I so appreciate your reports. We wondered what Fingall's pace for recovery would be. It sounds somewhat encouraging, especially if she does not need to be 100% for a while. And good to know that Dijonai is on track too.
I'm eager to see if Maya Dodson has progressed around the basket. Every year I think could be her chance to break out. We really need her to so so.
Do you think Haley was shooting free throws because she needs to improve her free throw shooting, or because her "ding" was keeping her out of any other practice?

Nadia looked great during the practice. High energy, vocal, skilled, clearly glad to be back. Maybe a little tired towards the end. I think she'll be starting.
Haley's free throw stroke is fine. She did some dribbling drills too, with Tempie. I'm sure she was held out of the scrimmage only because of injury.
Maya was doing a sort of Mikan drill around the basket for quite a while, but slowly and pretty flat footed. Still nursing foot problems? At least she wasn't in a boot.
Hannah Jump was short on all her three pointers, but since we've heard such good things about her shooting in practice, I'll assume it was just a rough day.
Kiana was great as usual. I could see why Tara is so high on Anna Wilson too. Someone asked Tara who the starting five will be. She said she doesn't know, but she did reel off names of possible starters -- nine of them if I counted right. Anna was the first mentioned, then I think Ki, Di, and Nadia.
During the scrimmage, Ashten and Fran were mostly guarding each other. Ashten's height kept Fran in check.

Thanks for these updates/recaps!
Glad to hear
Nadia's coming back strong. She was just finally really starting to show her promise last season when she was injured, so hopefully she can pick up where she left off. She had some excellent high post moves and shooting right before her injury IIRC. If she can knock down jumpers from the key and elbow, she will significantly ease the transition from losing Alanna Smith - I much less worried about replacing her productivity under the basket than I am her high post moves that kept our offense so fluid.
I really hope
Dodson can take those next steps as 81 was alluding to - she has a lot of potential but even late into last season she still looked like a teenage puppy who doesn't quite know where her feet are and is a little sloppy in movement. If she can get more precise on her footwork it'll make a brobdingnagian different for her shooting and her defense and reduce her fouling rate. And given how many bunnies she missed last season, it sounds like a Mikan Drill (or 10) is just the right prescription.
I wonder what's up with
Haley Jones? She was left off the U19 team and many were very surprised, but I wonder if she's had an ongoing injury over the summer? Without knowing more, it's hard to tell what to think, but I can't recall seeing a viral clip of her play or practice anywhere all summer, so maybe it's been more serious than we knew about. It would also explain why Tara hasn't had much to say about her so far.
Can't wait to see new and improved Lexie and Wilson, and to see what Prechtel and Belibi can contribute.
I have to say, I think this may be our most banged up team of just about any I can remember. Every single one of our upperclass candidates to start except Kiana Williams has missed games and/or practice in the past season due to injuries: Carrington, Fingall, Dodson, Lexie, and Wilson. Given the state of our football team, the Athletic Department really needs to get Turley 2.0, because injury prevention has been a real weakness for us lately.

Thank you so much, Judy! I was really bummed that I couldn't take the day off to go, but I really appreciate that you provided the next best thing!
