Maybe they're betting KU will be #1 at the time, or they're counting on local bball fans being REALLY REALLY starved to see good basketball.

Yeah, most likely they're counting on local Kansas fans to show up.

With variable ticket pricing now being common, I'd expect there was an analysis of what would maximize revenue as opposed to what would fill Maples with Stanford fans.

Yes, in SF I personally know three Kansas fans who love college basketball.

That's more than the number of Stanford basketball fans I know.
