Roster comparison - Phogge - 11-09-2019

2010.... 26 played in NFL

How many off 2019 will play in NFL? Probably not 26.

2010 was probably the most talented roster Stanford has had in my watching days

I don't know how the 1970 roster compares in terms of the number of its members that went to the NFL, but it outperformed the 2010 roster in the number of Rose Bowl victories and the number of H***man Awards won (and that was back when that award had meaning).

Don't get me wrong; I do wish the 2010 squad had won both.

My favorite Stanford team.  When they felt like it they could beat anybody in the nation. Unfortunately they mailed it in a couple of times and paid the price. But I do believe that was the best team in the country that year.

The ‘69 team may have better. Thanks to a missed tackle on Clarence Davis, a superhuman day by Mike Phipps and a blocked FG tie against UCLA they could have gone 10-0 and faced the Big 10 winner for the NC.

1970 roster had the Chickens including NFL first round choice Greg Sampson, All America Pete Lazatich and others. College HOFer Jeff Siemon at MLB, long time pros Benny Barnes and Bob Moore, All Coast C John Sande and the Big #16 guy and the redshirting Don Bunce who chose Med School over the NFL.
