WSoc: Stanford bracket - Viking_Guy - 11-21-2019

Because BYU won't play on Sunday, their pod played their first games today.

And #3 Arkansas, in the grand tradition of SEC seeds in the soccer tournament, lost to North Carolina State 2-1.

#2 seed BYU is scoreless vs. Louisville at the half, in what appears to be a fairly even game.

It's interesting, the Arkansas Louisville game was free on the WAC's channel, but the BYU game is behind a registration wall for BYU.tv. I would love it if the NCAA decided that hosts couldn't paywall tournament games - like with the Hofstra game last week.

BYU up 4-0 in the 90th. Stick a fork in it.  You got my hopes up! Plus Arkansas's loss makes it all the more likely that, if we get to quarters, we'll face the country's only undefeated team. Frankly, I'm more worried about Hofstra. A 16 RPI that was grossly underseeded (assuming there weren't late injuries or something else the committee knew that I don't) and we're coming off a nice gallop through the high grass of Prairie View.  Fingers crossed.

On the men's side, Seattle/LMU just started. It determines our opponent on Sunday. Cal/UCSB also just started (7:00 pm PST) at Harder Stadium. Go Gauchos - let the tortillas fly! (Son was a frosh at UCSB when they beat UCLA for the championship in 2006 (?). And, of course, I'm happy for (almost) anyone to Beat Cal.)

You get to be happy!   UCSB 3 - Berkeley 1

It's kind of hard to be happy for UCSB for me. Kind of... haha

I think (hope?) the RPI is misleading here, maybe because Hofstra's only losses were to 3 NCAA tournament teams.  One was a 6-0 loss to Penn State (versus our 2-1 victory against this common opponent), one was a 4-1 loss to Rutgers (who lost in the first round to Central Connecticut 0-1), and the third was a 1-2 loss to Brown (who advanced to the second round on PKs over Monmouth, 0-0). I don't expect a close game. But the NCAA made up for it with our likely tough third-round game against the aforementioned Penn State. If it comes to pass, I'm not expecting the domination we showed against them the last time we played them in the tournament, just a win would be fine.

THREE-seed Okl State just lost to UNSEEDED Santa Clara 3-1 on neutral field. Does the soccer committee even watch games during the season???

RE: WSoc: Stanford bracket - Canalejas - 11-22-2019

It looks like Washington was eliminated by South Florida, 2-0.

RE: WSoc: Stanford bracket - PVTree - 11-22-2019

Wazzu eliminated their 1 seed, Virginia.

Not a gajillion to nothing as against Prairie View A&M, but a respectable 4-nil final.  Goals by Macario (2), Smith, and Haley.  Held Hoftstra to 3 shots, 1 on goal.

RE: WSoc: Stanford bracket - Lorcan - 11-23-2019

The Virginia loss is absolutely stunning. All season, their only blemish was in overtime to North Carolina. The Hoos had only given up 8 goals all season—and then they let Washington State sneak three past them.

What a day it could’ve been if Colorado had just found a way in a tight game with UNC.
