WBB: Quiz questions for the holidays -
81alum - 12-24-2019
As we lick our Texan wounds and wait to take things out on UC Davis, I thought a few stat questions might be a fun diversion. Without looking this up, answer the following question:
Kiana Williams has the most minutes of any player so far at 344. Lexie Hull has the next most at 301. Haley Jones is 3rd at 265. Who do you think is 4th and who is 5th in total minutes played so far this year?
When you exhaust this one I have a few more lined up :) Happy Holidays!

Surprising to me that the number 5 is Lacie given that she missed an entire game.
How about adding rebounds/minute played; points/minute played;

Yes, Bob is correct. Fingall is 4th at 199, Lacie is 5th at 183. Starter Jerome is 6th at 168.
To answer Bob's rebounding question, I know it used to be Belibi, but after Lexie's 10 rebound game I'm going to guess Lexi.
Three point shooting minus Jump? I have no idea. Not very good I think. I guess....28%.
And here is another question from me:
Which "Big" has the most assists?

I’ll go Bilibi rebounds per minute
Jump points per minute
Mb dude is right 31%

I'm going to guess Nneka. I know she did a big photo shoot after she graduated, but I didn't think it was in the swimsuit edition. Actually, I think they were tastefully nude so probably not in SI, in which case I haven't a clue.

Ding! Carey's freshman season was pretty much unlike any other freshman three-point shooter that Stanford has ever had. Carey shot a mind-blowing 81-178 (45.51%) from the three her freshman season. Imagine what an injury-free career would have looked like.
Three-pointer trivia question #2: which of these long-distance bombers shot over 40% from the three for her freshman season? Karlie Samuelson, Candice Wiggins, Jeanette Pohlen, Kiana Williams, or Bonnie Samuelson.

I’ll go Jeanette and Bonnie

To answer my earlier question about which "Big" has the most assists, it depends on what you mean by "Big."
Jones has the most assists of any player who plays at the 4 or 5.
Jerome, however, has more assists than any other big. More than Belibi, Prechtel, or Fingall--and all four are in the same ballpark for minutes played. This seems to be her best offensive asset just now.

I'm going to guess none of them. I seem to remember Karlie and Bonnie didn't get a lot of time in their freshman seasons, I remember Williams being over 40% in the early part of the year but falling off as the year went along. Wiggins and Pohlen were great all around but I never thought of them as being off-the-charts three point shooters--just excellent and complementing their drives and mid range. I'd almost guess JJ Hones as a possibility. I'd also guess Jennifer Azzi except I don't think they had three point shots during her freshman year. How about Nygaard?

81 is correct - none of the above got to 40% freshman year: Pohlen (26.87%), Wiggins (33.65%), Karlie (34.78%), Bonnie (37.24%), Williams (38.4%). And no 3-pointers for Azzi's freshman year. Nygaard was 9-37 (24.3%) in her freshman season.
And, apologies to Kelley Suminski! I missed her awesome freshman season in 01-02. 38-82 (46.3%). So, she has the freshman record for highest 3-point % although Carey had way more three-pointers made her freshman year.

Answer: Kate Starbird. She was in the piece called something like "Ones to Watch" when she was in high school.
