Wait?  You mean season ticket sales are not filling the AD coffers enough?  What's next? . . . Advertising signage in the stadium?

How come I'm reminded of the phrase:  desperate times call for desperate measures.

That seems like the thought bubble I've had in the past when I've been sitting in 110 heat on the sunny side and desperately craving a cool one. Almost everyone has a lot to be outraged about these days, but this is a move that will make sunny side day games much more enjoyable.

RE: beer and wine at football games this coming season - 82lsju - 02-20-2020

updated the original post, the benefit is only for "priority seats"

RE: beer and wine at football games this coming season - PAsportsfan - 02-20-2020

Don't get too excited, per Eric's edit, it for PRIORITY SEAT HOLDERS only.

If I'm reading the announcement correctly, the beer & wine will be available only to Priority season ticket holders (those who pay for seat licenses) and only on the outer concourse, plus also to people in the SkyDeck.

But it's possible this is a limited test before opening up alcohol sales in future years.

I didn’t see a thread about season ticket renewals in general so I figured I’d post here.

1) Actually, not a fan of beer and wine sales. I’ve seen drunk (u$c) fans at places like Levi’s and staggering in from tailgates and don’t need more. But we’ll see how the experiment goes. My guess is that it’ll be a success as long as it’s on a limited basis, like only for priority $TMs.

2) I was struck by the lack of transparency and information this year. How much of a discount did returning stms get? What is the alumni/staff/young alumni discount? Who knows. All we get is a bill saying “pay this much.” I was disappointed by the decrease from last year. I thought they’d discount it more. I expect I’ll take a loss on any games I can’t make. Fwiw my rate dropped about $12 per ticket / $2 less per game.

3) i haven’t yet but I plan to compare how the “donations” are changing for premium seats.

4) i never heard anything from Stanford until today and suddenly it’s “renew by the end of day to qualify for all renewal lotteries!!” I wonder what effect the last-minute approach will have. My guess is that it won’t help —i didn’t hear anything at all from my “account exec”. I happened to have already decided I was going to renew, but if I had been on fence, the disorganized, last-minute, non-communicative experience would not help.

5) Of course i renewed! Go Cardinal 2020!!! Can’t wait for fall!

I'm not sure if there have been actual studies about it, but the argument I've seen is that people who want to be drunk for the game just get tanked ahead of time and then are much worse off vs if they just had a few during the game. Could easily be a wash.

Maybe this is a difference in our levels, but I don't see anything saying that it had to be by the end of the day. It does say "Renew Today!" up at the top but I don't see anything saying that you actually did need to renew that day. I'm about to start  6-figure home renovation and really questioning whether I want to keep spending 4 hours in a car to spend 3.5 hours in a stadium, but will probably renew this year and see if my kid is more into it.

RE: beer and wine at football games this coming season - BostonCard - 02-21-2020

Reminder that we go to the even year schedule, so we lose the Notre Dame and Cal home games.  While the nominal cost of tickets has dropped a de minimis amount, once you adjust for opponent, it is actually a price increase.

The only highlight game is USC on Sep. 19.  Games against William and Mary, WSU, OSU, and Colorado don't excite at all.  BYU will be interesting at least, but considering the scheduling downgrade, the price reduction strikes me as inadequate.

dropped for season ticket total cost, but we have 6 home games in 2020 vs 7 home games in 2019, so a significant per game increase for a worse schedule (~15% per game for me)

I think that's an optimistic price for the William & Mary game......
