Baseball at Round Rock -

Friday afternoon game versus Houston not on Pac-12 net, but I'm listening via the U. of Houston baseball network (KZSU is flaky on my machine for some reason).
Stanford up 1-0, middle of the second.
Don't know anything about U of H baseball, but they do have pitcher Jared Pettitte, son of Andy, on their roster.

Looks like video of this weekend's games is behind this paywall:

That's right, M T, and live stats are also behind a paywall?

The GoStanford stats link leads circuitously to the Peak Events application, which is 75 MB in size...interesting.

Stanford now down 6-1 after committing 3 errors in the 4th.

Middle of the 5th inning, Stanford down 1-8, and Houston will be up to bat after Stanford finishes the inning with the bases loaded. Houston scored seven runs in the 4th inning, yikes. Stanford's had four hits; Houston's had eight hits.

Sounds like extra fielding practice in the future.

Finally, Stanford breaks the bases-loaded jinx in the seventh inning. They push across 3 and are down 8-4 with Houston coming up to bat.

Stanford loses to Houston 11-4 and falls to 1-4 on the season. In addition to the errors, Stanford left 12 men on base. The last time Stanford baseball started 1-4 or worse? I don't know but it was before 1999 (that's as far back as I checked).
Before today's game Houston had lost 2 out of 3 to Youngstown State.
Let's hope the good guys regroup tomorrow versus Texas Tech.

Ok, who knows how to follow the Texas Tech game that should've just started?
KZSU seems to be playing music on all three streams.
I guess Twitter has all the answers.

Sigh. Another loss, 2-7. Defense needs work, pitching needs work, offense needs a LOT of work. Do we at least run the bases well?

Down 2-6 in the top of the 8th against Tennessee. Given up only 4 hits, but committed
four errors. Collected 8 hits, but 8 LOB. Ugh. I know we’ve lost a lot of talent, but we’ve always been able to reload. This is one of the worst starts I can remember.

Dang. Let's hope we right the ship as the season progresses.

We give up 5 hits and stoke out 17 and lose
7 walks and 5 errors and lack of hitting did us in

Stanford at Cal on Tuesday night on Pac-12 network. Had a chance to watch Cal get a big early lead at UCSB and then fall apart and lose by a final score of 17-7. Da Bears are 2-5, as they also took one out of three from Long Beach State and Saint John's.
We all knew that hitting was a big question mark entering the season--team BA is .189, OPS is .513, 14 runs scored in 7 games--but the fielding has been atrocious. We've allowed 42 runs, but 15 (!) are unearned.

I was in Texas this past weekend. The team is a work in progress.
The defense was atrocious and no one was spared, the pitching ordinary and the bats pedestrian. BUT, there is talent here and signs that the team will turn it around. I still believe! The team hit the ball much harder than the weekend before and the errors and pitching will improve.
I see a winning streak in our future to get to .500 by league play...
