MBB vs. Utah -- WIN! 70-62 - SamuelMcF - 02-26-2020

Stream: http://mainscore01.blogspot.com/2020/02/1d316b7f.html

Must-win game to keep Big Dance hopes alive. Utah's starting PG Rylan Jones (who played 44 minutes in our first game!!) was injured the other night and they're keeping mum about his status. We are favored by 7.5 coming off a morale-boosting road sweep, and Utah is notably awful on the road.

This is a brobdingnagian must win. Hope it’s a fun Night

If anyone is going to the game tonight, pay attention at the 1st tv timeout as Stanford honors the Season Ticketholder of the Game, my friend and fellow class of 83 member Joe Mitchner!

Well, that was a thud of an ending to a great opening 13 minutes.

Stanford led 29-11 with seven minutes to go in the first half.

At half, it's 34-22.

Bench play.  Delaire was pretty good, but White for Davis against the zone wasn't working real well.  I loved Davis dropping into the FT line against the zone - I was thinking that might be a good thing for Ki on the women's side.  PGs are used to picking out the right pass, or shooting the 12 foot jumper if the zone doesn't cover them.

Breaking news: Tyrell Terry is good at basketball.

RE: MBB vs. Utah 7pm P12N - Viking_Guy - 02-26-2020

And now da Silva is getting his end of game issues aired again.  Silly foul to give Utah a 3 point play, then charging into the middle of two defenders with a 5 point lead and less than 4 minutes on the clock.

Maybe let Davis do something?  Or at least try to run an offense, rather than an endless series of one on the entire defense forays into the lane?

It seems that Dawkins recruited at least three Allens during his time here and Timmy Allen is better than all of them.

Branden Carlson and Both Gach and he all came to play and as a result the ending of this game is going to be a dogfight.

Hung on to win, 70-62.

Two key points - Davis driving into the lane and drawing a foul to reset the shot clock with 1 second left, 2 minutes to go in the game.

Then Spencer Jones passing up a contested three, and Delaire hitting the wide open one after Jones got him the ball, to push the lead to 6 with a minute left.

Sort of offset by Davis missing the front end of a 1 and 1, but then Terry hit his FTs to close it out.

Surviving.  And first win against Utah in a long time.

But that effort (and no Bryce Wills, who turned his ankle again) won't cut it against Colorado. I think it was Wills' absence that let Allen go off. Again, we don't have the depth to withstand a lot of non-starter minutes. Delaire has been a pleasant surprise of late, however.

Woohoo! Good guys win, 70-62. I was reading the posts here and then went to the stats page at gostanford, where I was horrified to see that Utah won, 69-60! It took me a minute to realize that the site had posted the score from the Arizona game with the Utah name and logo. The stats page has been screwed up for the past month or so.

RE: MBB vs. Utah 7pm P12N - Crafter Artisan - 02-26-2020

Escaped by that much.  Defense finally clamped down at the end, forcing some missed 3's, and then Jaiden Delaire, with the cold, hard bomb to put it away.  Even after falling behind, Utes didn't look like a team that's hapless on the road, they made a scare out of a game that shouldn't have been close.

Daejon, is your last name Houdini? No? Then you're not allowed to disappear.

It wasn't pretty but a lot better than say Minnesota, who blew a won home game against Maryland earlier tonight to remove them from tourney berth contention.

brobdingnagian win. Yes we should beat Utah but we got tough at the end.
We are now 19-9, 8-7 tied for 6-7 with USC but they have the tie breaker

Now beat Colorado. Sadly probably without Wills

Something has clicked for him, it seems.

First 9 Pac-12 games: 11 mins, 3 pts, 1.6 rebs per game; 36.6% FG%; 5/12 FTs

Last 6 Pac-12 games: 18 mins, 10 pts, 3 rebs per game; 53.5% FG%; 13/15 FTs

Just watched the second half. Even though I knew we’d won, it was frustrating. Small thrill from seeing an old Roble RA talking to Randle.

Does anyone in their heart of hearts truly believe - not just hope - Stanford will beat Colorado?

If Stanford wasn’t considered an NCAA tournament team before beating Utah, they aren’t considered one after beating them when expected to do so. It’s all about beating the Buffs now. I don’t believe that alone will get Stanford in, but it at least keeps the dream alive in Oregon.

I think they can beat Colorado, but only because I think they can play better than they did last night.

3 more wins (reg season + conf tournament) gets Stanford's ticket punched. Only 2 more wins and they're on the bubble. Less than that and they're a lock for the Dawkins Invitational Tournament.

We were up 15 in Boulder until Oscar got hurt. We can beat them at home.
