WBB - NCAA reveal -

Just saw the latest NCAA reveal of the top 16 at halftime of the total blowout of U Conn over S Florida.
#1s in order -- South Carolina (Greenville region); Baylor (Dallas region); Oregon (Portland); Maryland (Fort Wayne)
#2s in order -- UConn (Portland region); Louisville (Fort Wayne region); Stanford (Dallas region); UCLA (Greenville region)
Both OSU (#15) and Arizona (#14) are in top 16 as 4 seeds, so would get to host.

Oh please oh please let UConn get sent to Portland opposite Oregon.

Weird. As the top #2 they would generally go to either the geographically closest regional or the one with the bottom #1 (S-curve). There must have been some other compromise in play to send them to Portland.
Maybe they started with the S-curve and then swapped UConn with Louisville on the theory that Ft. Wayne is driving distance from Louisville.

Maybe minimizing travel and maximizing attendance since Louisville is on the border of Indiana. Storrs to Fort Wayne would require a flight.

Well, they couldn't send either UCLA or Stanford to Portland since they don't put a 1 vs 2 from the same conference in the same region. And Louisville, which as the #6 which in the strict seeding should be in Portland against #3 Oregon, is going to Fort Wayne because it's geographically close, and the NCAA really pays attention to that. Then UCLA goes to Greenville, following seeding, so by the time you're done, UConn is in Portland. Or something like that.

So how is the Pac 12 tournament going to affect our seeding and placement?
For example, lets say we beat Oregon State, UCLA, and Oregon and win the Pac-12 tournament. How far do we move up? Do we get a 1 seed?
Then, say we lose to Oregon State and thus do not win another game. How far do we move down? Do we go to a 3 seed?

i'm concerned about the team for both tournaments. We only have one impact player (I'm thinking in terms of tangibles and intangibles) and that's Williams. I thought Maya might be after seeing her in her first two games, but last two she regressed and seemed more like the player in her first two years - showing great potential but lacking the confidence, swagger, and determination to be dominant. The Hulls could have it, but lately they have been off. Even when Lexie scores a lot, it's taking lots of shots and seeming to really struggle. They're also missing FTs and their D hasn't been as impressive as earlier. Prechtel could too, but she's not getting the PT for one reason or another. You really need 2 or better 3 players who are consistently playing at a high level, providing leadership, and are really competitive, even fiery. Saw it earlier this year, but late season not much. Need that 2 and better 3 or can take over games almost at will.

My understanding is that no matter what we do in the tournament as to losing, we remain a 2 seed. if we win the whole thing ????

Even if all 4 of the current #1 seeds lose a game, I'm not sure they drop below us, even if we win the P12 tournament (beating RPI 18, 13, 2), at least, that's what Charlie Creme's seems to think. I surely don't think we'd hop over Oregon. Even if one did drop that much, we know UConn is unlikely to lose a game (best possible opponent, RPI 41, best season wins RPI 20, 22) (IF we somehow won the tournament AND UConn loses a game, then Stanford
might hop over UConn, not that it matters too much.)
However, I am surprised they haven't found a way to set up a UConn-Stanford game short of the final four. I still stand by my prediction that they'll use whatever shifting they can do in secret to set that up. I already have heard/read Creme complain that the requirement to keep top 4 seeds from the same conference in different regions is making it difficult.
Quote:With five Pac-12 and four Big Ten teams in the top 16 of this week's projection -- and bracketing rules that restrict the placement of teams that are among the top-four seeds from the same conference in the same region -- the flexibility for placing teams in the bracket is limited. Add to that the NCAA's historic desire for teams that can drive to a regional site (fewer than 350 miles from campus)...
