According to a British tabloid quoting Wuhan researchers, people with Type A blood are more susceptible to infection by the coronavirus, and once they have COVID-19, they are more likely to die from the virus. Some interesting statistics in the article.

I had read some of this in preprint, so it has been a while. Today, while reading another article from some media outlet (ie, non-medical), I saw a
headline link that claimed blood type influenced getting the disease. That didn't fit what I remembered.
The media article's link was to this
paper. It is confusing, but I still read the paper as indicating the blood type association was to patients with severe COVID-19 with respiratory failure, not to simply COVID-19.
Am I confused? Is the blood type association to getting the disease, or to respiratory failure if you have the disease?
By the way, I thought this was an
informative video (mostly about testing). Specifically, I wanted to point out this graphic (at 1:00) that respiratory failure is only one of several phases of COVID-19.
- presymptomatic phase: 1-3 days before onset of symptoms
- viral phase: 0-14 days after onset of symptoms
- cytokine storm phase: 7-15 days after onset of symptoms
- coagulation phase: 13-22 days after onset of symptoms
- late hyperinflammatory phase: 18-33 days after onset of symptoms
I haven't seen that graphic elsewhere.
In regards to this post, I believe the blood group association has not yet been shown to apply to the other phases. I'd guess they were all related, but maybe not.
