Links please. Can't find where Fauci is gone or where Trump states he wants the shutdown to end next week (though frankly, most people want the shutdown to end next week).

Here's a what I did find:

"President Trump said Monday that his administration would work to allow local economies to “cautiously resume” activities at the appropriate time amid the coronavirus outbreak, adding that the United States “wasn’t built to be shut down.”

“Our public health experts, who are terrific, are studying the variation and the disease across the country, and we will be using data to recommend new protocols to allow local economies to cautiously resume their activity at the appropriate time,” Trump told reporters in the White House briefing room Monday evening.

“Our country wasn’t built to be shut down,” Trump continued. “This is not a country that was built for this.” "

Seems reasonable to me.

Apparently he went on to say that he was optimistic that it would be a matter of weeks, not three or four months. Is optimism such a bad thing?

We don't know how many cases there are in the US to within an order of magnitude. And Trump's "public health experts" are going to be able to figure out where we can lift the quarantines? No way.

Fauci said to expect months of shutdown. Show me a mass of reputable epidemiologists who thinks it will be weeks, and I will eat my shorts and post the video of it here on the site. Trump's statement is pure PR, hoping to get a rise in the stock market.

Again, links please. Fauci said it could be two months. Please provide links showing that Fauci said three or four months of shutdown. And isn't Fauci one of the public health experts to which Trump was referring?

I think I can get there.

France was built for shutdowns -
The working citizens get 6 (or more) weeks of vacation.
Many routinely take August off, so they have that part of the challenge down too.
And, with universal health care, they don't need to scramble back to work seconds after layoffs.
Most of Europe has a similar deal as many even offer extended paid breaks for those struggling with serious illnesses.

The USA was not built for shutdowns
Working citizens get 2 weeks of vacation time, if they are lucky
Most don't even take their 2 week allocation each year
With insurance provided by employers Americans often can't afford healthcare when they become unemployed
In most cases USA citizens will get a small fraction of their pay should they become disabled and almost nothing if they have a serious illness.

So if you think about it the USA was not built for shutdowns is essentially true.
For similar reasons the USA was not built for pandemics.

nope, you bet wrong. I don't see the similarity at all (and from the post immediately above, it seems I'm not the only one). And I aced those SAT questions about things that are similar and those that are not! But I'm happy to learn if you can explain plainly enough for me to understand!

Ah, I see what you are referring to, thanks, I appreciate the insight. I hope many others are as inspired by Trump to make the necessary sacrifices to win this battle. I'm personally not inspired by Trump and didn't read that into those words. The sentence before that one was unassailable on its own I think.
