Ziaire Williams? - bbm233 - 03-24-2020

Anybody know if there is a timeframe for a decision? Is there another signing period coming up, or is this going to be one of those backdoor, sign a financial aid agreement deals? With White's departure we have a scholarship open, right?

If he comes, and he is what we think he is, then is this the starting five?:
1. Terry
2. Davis
3. Williams/Jones?
4. Jones/Delaire?
5. DaSilva

Where is Bryce Wills?

RE: Ziaire Williams? - Papa John - 03-24-2020

I think that the spring signing period for men's basketball starts on Wednesday, April 15 this year, unless it's been changed for some reason.

As for the starting lineup, landing ZW would be a great problem to have indeed!

RE: Ziaire Williams? - BobK - 03-24-2020

We do have a scholarship open. It appears the recent SAT test was cancelled and the next one is cancelled. That could be the problem Hope not

I’m sure the signing window isn’t a problem but a financial aid signing isn’t a back door.

RE: Ziaire Williams? - SamuelMcF - 03-24-2020

The regular signing period begins 4/15 and ends 5/20. We currently have 1 scholarship open, and possibly a second if Keefe defaults back to his original 2 year WO, 2 year scholarship agreement. (He got one along with the other WOs this season because we had the space, and WO scholarships are only binding for a year.)

You bring up an interesting question. Wills is too good of a defender not to start, and he was adding an interesting offensive dimension to his game towards the end of the season. If Williams were to commit (fingers crossed), my best guess is:

1. Terry
2. Davis
3. Wills
4. Williams
5. Da Silva

Essentially the same "small" lineup as this year's with Williams in Jones' place. However, Jones could easily start and Delaire could easily play 20 minutes depending on the matchups we want. One of my X-factors is if Kisunas (or possibly another big freshman? Wink wink) can take a step forward and play even decently at the 5, it would open up Oscar to be an absolute terror inside against a physically overmatched 4 (instead of a bigger opposing 5 like he was playing against all season).

If the frosh can contribute as many believe, every scholarship player on our team except Keenan Fitzmorris should see significant minutes. A massive upgrade.

scholarship count?

confirmed:
swing (original 2 year walk on, then scholarship, but timing moved up) 3 incoming FR so 1 to 2 scholarships available?  how is next year's recruiting looking?

Quick count: that's 11 without Keefe, and 12 with. So 1-2 scholarships available.

2021 looks like it could be really, really good. We're in it for a handful of very high-profile recruits.

Keefe was actually given the scholarship before enrolling. He was told walk on for one year not two.

RE: Ziaire Williams? - Spiny_Norman - 04-11-2020

Williams is announcing tomorrow (Easter Sunday).

I'm worried about U$C and the recruits they have plus ESPN's #1 Jalen Green is considering the trojans so it might sway him to join arguably their best class under Enfield.

Green isn't going there, but another top recruit Joshua Christopher might be.

If Ziaire was really going to commit to USC, why not do it months ago? He took multiple AP classes. I genuinely believe he was waiting on admissions to make a decision. Admissions came out a week or two ago, so it seems he's now had time to mull things over. We don't know whether he was admitted or not, so of course it's just as likely he got in and really had to think about it, or didn't get in and was mulling between USC and Arizona at this point. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

RE: Ziaire Williams? - Papa John - 04-11-2020

He's also considering UCLA and UNC, right?

Technically he never released anything beyond a top 7 which those 2 were also in, but the word is it's down to USC, Stanford, and maybe Arizona.

We had an athlete accepted a couple of days ago. LOI starts Wednesday and athletes are on a different schedule from non athletes.
Let’s hoping

Here's hoping our top-tier expectations for our men's basketball program are resurrected tomorrow! We've had a bad streak of personnel news for our basketball teams, so it'd be really great to turn the corner. Fingers crossed...

I was thinking the same thing. Been speculating, too, on how/if corona may play a factor in his decision. Maybe he's thinking, well, the team may not play the first season, so I may as well attend the best uni in the bunch. On the other hand, maybe it makes him want to be closer to home. And, yes, I've absolutely nothing better to do right now than speculate on where a h.s. hoops star intends to go to college.

RE: Ziaire Williams? - grantavalon - 04-11-2020

Stanford is an attractive landing spot from a basketball standpoint if Ty ends up coming back. Ty and Spencer have been in close touch with recruits in 2020 and 2021, so Ziaire maybe has a bit of a read on Ty's leaning.

Without Ty, there are only 3 scholarship guards on the roster, and pulling a late player out of a hat like they did with Spencer will be more difficult this year with the world shut down. Ziaire transferred to Sierra Canyon for his senior year, so he obviously cares about winning

RE: Ziaire Williams? - grantavalon - 04-11-2020

Fwiw, most every expert on 247 just indicated he's coming to Stanford. Evan Daniels is virtually never wrong, so it seems a near lock that we landed him. Wow

RE: Ziaire Williams? - BobK - 04-11-2020

Wow 9 of 10 CBs to Stanford

RE: Ziaire Williams? - Phogge - 04-11-2020

If only there would be a season to play.
