1 million coronavirus cases diagnosed to date, and 50,000 coronavirus deaths worldwide.
US is closing in on a quarter million diagnoses and 6000 deaths.
California broke 10,000 cases, and is at 215 deaths.
The most deaths we have had due to influenza in the last 10 years was estimated at 61,000 in the 2017/18 season. I think we will eclipse that with coronavirus.

Oy. Anyone wanna speculate on the actual number of cases worldwide now? Between asymptomatic cases, lack of testing in more advanced countries, and total lack of testing in poorer countries, it has to be closer to 10 million, right?

I would estimate actual prevalence worldwide at something like 50 to 100 million.
I think in US and nations with good health infrastructure, we are probably capturing between 5 and 10% of cases. But developing world is not doing many tests, and they for sure will have many many cases.

We just crossed the 250,000 death mark, and while that is just an arbitrary number that ends in 0, it is quite remarkable that this OP back in April was of 6000 deaths. We now average 6000 deaths every five days.
Needless to say, we have long eclipsed the most influenza deaths we have had in a year, and we will likely have more COVID-19 deaths than we have had from influenza over the course of the last 10 years (359,000).
