You can say it's OK for the POTUS to kill people in his country, but there is no arguing that the current POTUS is not doing this, or at least hasn't created the conditions to do it at scale. He and his clown car administration either has no idea how anything in government works, or they really have no concern for anyone's life but their own. Given the voluminous evidence of incompetence and malfeasance so well documented to this point, this is hardly surprising, but that doesn't make it any less totally 100% unacceptable.
The way its suppose to work:
1. Military assess needs and tells FEMA what supplies are needed
2. FEMA puts out an RFP for suppliers to bid (so the U.S. gets the best price)
3. Orders accepted and supplies are sent by military where they are suppose to go
The way it is operating now:
1. Military gives its dwindling supplies to private contractors?
2. States, hospitals, from the U.S. and other countries bid for the supplies from those contractors (driving up the price)
3. Supplies are sent to the highest bidder, whether U.S. or not
The U.S. military isn't even being used! THIS IS TOTALLY F*CKING INSANE & EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS:

As someone who has devoted a large portion of his adult life to issues related to federalism, this one killed me:

Another reason to have no words: they've now changed the description of the strategic stockpile to match Our Elected Leader's son-in-law's vision of how it should be viewed.

Utter insanity.

Real leadership in this crisis has come from the local and state level.
I'm from Santa Clara and thank goodness for the quick and assured action from local public health officials, local hospitals, and Governor Newsom. They have done much to avert tragedy here. The states that are waiting for Federal leadership before acting need to rethink their choice. Quickly.

As president #44 said, elections have consequences.

I simply can't imagine another attempt at impeachment, regardless if it has more merit than the impeachment over a phone call with Ukraine. Our nation will be crippled (further) if we end up going down that road. I would hope that we can resolve that productively.

At the risk of being political, I share a personal daydream prompted by the most recent White House briefing.
I dreamed of the same briefing but led by 42, 43 or 44. There are no malapropisms, no denials of statements made 2 weeks ago, the president speaks to the whole country and not just his partisans. His short statement explains his data based decisions with trusted subject matter experts and how he is working with allies internationally to resolve a world-wide crisis. Most of all there are no aggrandizing and embarrassing self-back-pats during the middle of a growing crisis.
It's a nice dream. It's not our reality.

Agreed. For better or for worse, we will have the current President until he is voted out (or I suppose if he is rendered incapacitated). And while I have not been impressed with how the administration has handled things, congress and the administration were able to negotiate successfully, and pass and sign major legislation to tackle the epidemic and its fallout.

I'd agree that presentation would sound more "presidential", but the action(s) taken would still highly depend on _which_ experts the president believed.

I agree with both the above. The other thing to remember is that POTUS, whoever that may be, is bound by laws that prevent him from doing certain things. Most (almost all) of the time, that is a good thing. He is also somewhat bound by custom in cases where the legal situation is gray (even though the current POTUS seems to not always react that way). Practically speaking, he is also bound by what he believes is politically possible. By this I do not mean what is politically best for him, but rather what congress and the American people will go along with. These strictures also apply to governors and mayors. These strictures remove lots of things from the table.
Looking back in time, the populace often says "Why did they not act sooner?" Sometimes, it was because what to do was very unclear. Other times, it was clear to the leader but had it been attempted, he would have faced a furor and probably have been forced to walk back.

Or if he maxes out on terms. Unless you're anticipating an amendment.
