The main area of need development-wise I see for him is physical - his body is still maturing and he'll struggle for a couple years with that in the NBA. Otherwise, mentally and skill-wise, I agree he's got the tools to make it. Sorry to see him go, but I'll be rooting for him to succeed...

Well, that sux (for us). I didn't expect this at all. I hope he's not signing with an agent and gets a chance to come back in case he changes his mind.
I wonder how his lost frosh experience is weighing on his decision? The uncertainty of not having a season in the fall must also be a factor.
Big blow to next year's expectations. Back to Daejon playing the 1.

Probably a wise choice given the uncertainty of next season but he’s not ready. A 15 man roster guy who should play in the D League for awhile.

I'm not sure how having to play for years in the D league is, under any circumstances, a good decision. A truly good decision would be to return to Stanford, add about 15 pounds of muscle, continue to fine tune his game, and then see where he stands with NBA GMs. Even if there is no college season next year, who cares? He's like, what, 18 years old?

I can see kids with a year of college remaining to come back to obtain a degree particularly if they have been in an academic environment. Just how many come back with three remaining? Probably not many. If your career is a washout and you are 24 or 25 what happens?

Well, I didn't see this coming.
I think it's a mistake. He's probably a second-round pick at best--if even that--which would mean no guaranteed contract and a possibility of never making it out of the D-league. Not that Terry doesn't have great skills, but making the NBA is really, really tough. Just look at the number of great Stanford players who barely hung around in the league before moving on to Europe, etc.
I think with an off-season in the gym and a good season next year, he could become a first-round pick, which is more valuable financially.
Calculations around whether or not there will even be a season next year are sort of moot because if there's no NCAA season, there probably won't be an NBA season either. The future is just too cloudy to base these kinds of decisions on.

This news shocked and saddened me. Selfishly, I hope he doesn't sign with an agent as well.
The notification that I got on my phone suggested he was a potential late 1st rounder. If he really can go in the 1st round, this move makes a lot of sense.

Well that sucks. I suspect the probability that next season won't proceed as normal may have factored into his calculus -- at least by going pro he gets a contract and can start collecting a paycheck until things return to normal in the NBA.

Terry is a great talent, but still very raw and I don't think he's prepared for either the pace or the physicality of the NBA compared to the college game. I doubt he'll be drafted and could spend multiple years in the D-league. A real mistake for him, and a big loss for Stanford.

Per RJ Abeytia of 247sports.com, Terry has not (yet) hired an agent. He could be "exploring the waters," but that tweet sure made it sound like he was a goner.
I wish him all the best, but I had high hopes for Stanford men's basketball next year--now they are back to mediocre hopes.

Sigh. Here we go again. Possibly another "rebuilding" season. Haase has been challenged every year. Needed allowance to get his recruits on the roster, then roster depleted by injuries, then premature loss of Travis, Okpala, Sheffield, White, Ryan, maybe Terry. I am sympathetic that he has never made excuses for the team results. These would be a challenge for any coach. I guess you just suck it up and make do.

Wow, this is crushing.
I mean, clearly he has NBA talent but in under any other circumstances it made sense for him to continue developing in college.
BUT, if -- according to your calculations -- there will be no college sports in '20-'21 (which, actually, I think may be right), it probably makes sense to go *someplace* and be playing competitive basketball, even if it's playing in a D-league, or Europe or wherever.
It makes less sense for Stanford athletes because of the education and experience they get, and the community they deepen their ties with -- even if done online. But for so many college athletes in fall-winter sports, if they aren't taking their classes seriously, why sit idle for a year?
