55% of New York Covid fatalities had hypertension - cardcrimson - 04-07-2020
Hypertension was by far the most common precondition among the fatalities at 55%, diabetes was second at 37%; 87% had some precondition. I'm sure someone is looking into a correlation with ACE inhibitors, but nothing has come out yet. As of a week ago, the AHA still considered them as not having any impact with Covid.

Since most of the deaths from Covid-19 occur in those over 44 years old, I don't think the 55% figure you cite in New York implies anything about whether the use of ACE inhibitors may contribute. The scientific speculation I've read goes both ways (some believe ACE inhibitors may be protective, others that it is the withdrawal of ACE inhibitor treatment that may be detrimental). Only a more detailed analysis will tell.

Was more curious than anything. Have hypertension and was on an ACE inhibitor until a month ago. Blood pressure was okay on the new meds, until a spike today. Probably related to living with two females experiencing the opposite ends of the hormonal spectrums.

Did I already post this? Since I'm not sure, this retrospective, single-hospital study finds benefit for ACE Inhibitors & ARB. The report/study has not yet been peer reviewed.

Yes you did. However as the info out of China is allegedly suspect, I was curious if anyone had looked Covid deaths in NYC for any sort of link.

Now her BP is better controlled and she's happy, which is a good outcome when you're making decisions in the absence of knowledge!

Another study, at least for those who can trust any non-US study, that found a beneficial association with ACE Inhibitor.

There is no reason to trust US studies more than foreign studies.

Please ignore this study. Sample size in their group that reached the endpoint was FIVE on ACE inhibitors and FOUR on ARB. This is barely even science.
