Worked in a respiratory urgent care center yesterday - akiddoc - 04-11-2020
My "second job" is at a major health care system in California. They are no longer seeing potentially infectious people indoors. Did everything in a parking garage today. Everyone in primary care has to take a turn.
Quite organized. Appointments made over the phone. Appointments are given on an as needed basis. In Pediatrics we aren't doing a lot of Covid testing and I didn't do any today. All of the kids I saw today might have had Covid but none of them were sick enough to be admitted to the hospital. None had chronic disease or were immunocompromised. I'm a little worried about one of them. Everyone with an appointment drives into the parking lot at their designated time. We had 4 adult stations and one Pediatric station. The vehicle parks in a taped off area. Only the physician in full PPE is allowed into that taped area, and once you're in that zone you cannot leave without doffing headgear and gloves. The doc has to do the vital signs, history and exam. The supporting staff nearby listens to the conversation and transcribes it all. Another physician nearby orders everything in the electronic chart that the doc in the tape asks for. We have enough N95's for one per doctor per shift. We wear a surgical mask over the N95 and change it between patients. The parent is not allowed out of the vehicle unless it is a young child. My patients ranged from 7 to 17 today. The 7 year old was obviously a little scared of my "star trooper" get up but she was a trooper herself. Interesting experience.
