Not just misguided, CLUELESS - gailtate - 04-13-2020

New tone-deaf low for the ticket office (AKA Stanford A.D.'s Braintrust):

Got a VM today from a breathless, presumably happy-faced intern wanting to check-in on my health...and inform me that, no worries, Stanford was looking forward to a business-as-usual football season, kicking-off on schedule!  And, wink-wink, nudge-nudge, not to forget that the NEW DUE DATE FOR $$$ WAS STILL INTACT, next month!  As in, be prepared to hand over your money, so we can put it to good Stanford use before we might have to refund it. After I picked myself up off the floor I debated calling back to give him my response. I decided to simmer down first. I am still on simmer. All those Mensa Members and such a paucity of common sense. Sorry, Bernard, I think you better "check-in" with Santa Clara County Health Department. And Gov. Newsom. They may have a different POV.

I did not get a call but got the same email that Snorlax94 posted on the main Cardboard that said in part

Quote:Thank you for renewing your 2020 Stanford Football Season Ticket Membership. As the impact of the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve, Stanford Athletics is closely monitoring the changing circumstances and will comply with the recommendations of the University, the Pac-12, the NCAA, and county and state officials. We continue to prepare for competition to resume in the fall. In the event the season cannot continue as planned, we will be in contact with various options to resolve your Membership renewal expenditure, including the option to request a refund.

so maybe your caller went a little off script

If there are decisions made that are undemocratic about attendance at Stanford Stadium I will be done with Stanford Athletics. For example: If big donors are allowed and non donor season ticket holders are not then adios.

money talks and small-fry walks.  (I'm using the term small fry to include all of us)

I got to see a couple of games last season from the VIP top floor box, as a guest; didn't like being so far above the action, but the (free) food, alcohol, and amenities were topnotch. Plus you don't have to sit with the other riff-raff. Plunkett was sitting right in front of me. I could see them making that a coronavirus-free zone, with 5-minute antigen testing before you get to come in.
