The worst idea you've ever had - BostonCard - 04-14-2020

Whatever it was, it couldn't be as bad as Wilner's:

https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/04/13/the-pac-12-networks-must-rise-to-the-occasion-when-football-begins-we-have-an-idea-a-big-idea/

(before you ask, while I think Wilner is useless as a sportswriter, he's actually a decent business-of-sports writer).

But to save you a click, here's his suggestion:

Quote:The Pac-12 should add Bill Walton to the football coverage.

No, really, that was his suggestion.

Well, given what Newsom seemed to be implying in his news conference, I could probably put up with this as long as the contract was only for the 2020 season...

I'll admit that I like Bill's tie-dye Pac-12 t-shirts. And I think we should embrace them and make them part of every Pac-12 sport conference championship celebration.  But as for Bill himself, I think he's best appreciated in small doses.

As with small children, he should be seen but not heard.

Call me crazy, but I enjoy Bill Walton. He's very pro-Conference of Champions. He's overcome a lot, in terms of broadcasting, with his speech impediment. He has interesting stories (though I do wish it wasn't in the middle of the game), and you can tell he still enjoys the game very much. He is also an alum, correct (GSB)?

The dude makes me laugh...and he's obviously a cool guy. Of course, there are some days where he just annoys me...but overall, he's just so damn likable.

When I first saw that I assumed he was being facetious. I guess maybe he wasn't.

I haven't seen much of Walton, but what I have seen makes me think his shtick is somewhat amusing and entertaining.
I also think it could get old rather quickly.

This makes for a fun (or horrible) game of "would you rather":

Would you rather:
 - have there be football in 2020, but Walton calls every Stanford game
- or no football in 2020.

I honestly can't decide.

There is a great solution to the Bill "motor mouth" Walton issue.

The MUTE button...I use it for every game he appears on.

I consider Bill Walton on football coverage this fall as a good problem to have.

law school.
Not sure he graduated (but that doesn't DQ him from alum status, right?).

Nate Walton, Bill’s son has an MBA from Stanford

The subhead in this morning’s Merc: “Call me crazy, but...”

Okay Jon. You’re crazy.
