Not sure if you don't want anyone to answer today or just Phogge -- but I will.  I think Jackie played 1B in his first game.

Qwerty is a winner, Robinson was the 1B. Come on you know more Q

It wasn't the Chairman of the Board Whitey Ford.

OK rookie Jim Davenport hit leadoff for the Giants, followed by LF Jim King and then #24.  That was in the bottom of the 1st. I think it was vs the Dodgers, so the actual first hitter back in '58 must have been a Dodger. I think Pee Wee Reese hit 2nd in that lineup, in front of Snider and Hodges but I'm blanking on their leadoff hitter.

Edit: I looked it up. I won't spill the beans but I'm sure the reason why he was the first hitter was that he was a San Francisco boy.

It wasn’t Jim Gentile of Sacred Heart or Charlie Silvera from SI or Gil McDougald from Commerece all playing in 1958.

RE: More trivia - BobK - 04-16-2020

Geno Cimoli batted lead off for the only time in his Dodger career. It was because he was from SF and he did go to Galileo HS

Tony “Push em Up” Lazzeri played at Galileo and made the HOF. My Mom swore that Joe D was in her class for about two weeks at Gal. He learned how to play at North Beach Playground... on an asphalt surface... with sliding.

I lived up the hill from North Beach Playground for quite some time and often saw the local guys sliding on the asphalt.  The most popular version wasn't a full-fledged leave-your-feet slide but rather a running, flat-footed slide, knees bent kind of like skateboarding into third base.  A lot of sneaker rubber got burnt on that playground.
