I wonder how many older coaches may say "I love basketball & the kids & coaching, but the risk of dying from COVID-19 is just too high for me to be recruiting & all the other interactions it requires. Time to let someone younger take over." Some ardent fans might be unhappy, but I think most would support that.
You probably don't want to consider it, but wouldn't it be ironic if both Tara and Geno (both late 60s) retired before the next few games could be played. Pat Summitt would continue to have the most wins.
I'm not sure that I'd make that decision currently, but I'd be thinking about what might lie ahead.

I hear you MT. As a college professor of retirement age I find myself asking those same questions. Is putting up with inferior online teaching or risking my life in the classroom really what I need to be doing? I love my students much as those coaches love their players and the game, but the calculus is changing.
Muffet, however, had a much tougher time this year--the first time we have seen her emotional upheaval--so things were not going well even before Covid put a merciful end to Notre Dame's season. Geno and Tara have more to look forward to, and Tara in particular seems to have a great work/life balance that keeps her happy.

Recently Tara was quoted saying (roughly) that the tournament cancellation and shelter at home gave her a feeling of what retirement would be like -- and she didn't like it!
