I am unfamiliar with this particular medicine, but a related medicine actemra, or tocilizumab, I know has been used off label. 

Another bummer study, but one that should not be surprising. Most of these trials will fail after all.

Restating from other posters the obvious, this is at least partially about # of shots on goal.   Quality helps of course, but for medicines/vaccines/antibodies etc. the more competent efforts in parallel, the higher the odds of success on an improved timeline.

Very true. And were still early. But all of the trial data is thus far consistent with the clinical experience that there is no ground breaking pharmaceutical currently being used. Remdesivir, IL6 antibodies, plaquenil, all have been tried in thousands of patients. 

If there was an existing medication giving really good results, we'd probably know it by now, and the better trials we've seen results for fit with this experience. Maybe one of the meds will give a limited benefit. But nothing that would let us reopen widely or anything like that. Of course all of these meds are old. Perhaps there will be a groundbreaking new medication, perhaps monoclonal neutralizing antibodies or something. But if its new, then it needs a lot more testing before it can be used.
