Is he kidding? PR can be and has been done remotely for decades. It's one of the jobs that's most suited for remote work. I've been working remotely with PR people for decades.

I guess they gave themselves the out of "with live audiences", so perhaps sports will be played after all. But man, I genuinely don't know how you'd justify playing a football game if you don't think it's safe enough to have fans there. You're sitting pretty close in the stands, sure, but you're not smacking into each other repeatedly while breathing hard...

The PPE situation has not improved, and in fact may have worsened. That will be a pretty big stumbling block to reopening.

The Governor of CA and the Mayor of Los Angeles have several public statements noting their opposition to live audiences at major sporting events until one of three things happened. (vaccine, herd immunity, therapeutic agents available). This press release formalizes something we have known for 2 weeks now.

Herd immunity is not happening in 2021, not even in NYC. Won't happen in CA thanks to our flattening the curve efforts.
A vaccine is not going to be available, but even if it is there is no way there will be enough doses to give them to fans at Dodger or USC games.
Of the three the only one with a fighting chance of becoming available and be used for fans in the stands in 2021 would be therapeutic agents.
It COULD happen, but it seems so unlikely.

The UofA President is a medical doctor, so I believe he knows the deal. The UofA appears set to test students and faculty often so they hope that will be enough to keep the campus open, but even with that he has been on record that a UofA football season is unlikely.

My guess is the Pac-12 bumps along until mid-June hoping that either CA will allow fans at events even without a therapeutic agent or an agent is available. If not, they will cancel the season.
