Two reports today should be noted. According to the director of the LA County Health whatever the current shelter in place will be continued until at least August. In other news the CSU system will not be offering classes on any of the state’s 23 campuses. Only online instruction. Only a handful have revenue sports.

UCSB is looking at a return of at least some students in the fall, with hybrid in-person and online teaching. I'm guessing that all of the UCs will consider seriously that model. So fall sports are at least a possibility for UC schools, but I have no idea what FBS schools like Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State will do.

Stanford football sent out their season ticket reseating emails today. However, there is a footnote at the bottom saying that if capacity is limited for this season there will be a whole new process set up to handle it.

The odds that they will play college football this fall are slim and none. And Slim just walked out the door. Pro football slightly better chance. But doubtful. My guess is there will be no major team sports played until 2021.
Baseball is talking about July and playing all games in a few cities. I’d put the odds at 95-5 against. I put the odds of the NFL about 80-20 against. Even with empty stadiums. From a demographic standpoint the fact that these are people in prime condition under the age of 40 ( and in most cases under the age of 30) means the odds of any player getting sick and dying are very low. But the chances of large numbers getting sick seem pretty high. The problem isn’t the game. It’s the locker room. No way to avoid these people being in close quarters. The virus hits a team runs through it how can they play? I just don’t see any professional sports until next year.
I could see the PGA Starting up again. But different rules. Tournaments would be twosomes . No caddies. Each player would have their own cart. They can socially distance while they play. A Marshall on each hole. No fans. No flag sticks. Technology on the carts could tell them where the hole is. And maybe you have a Marshall standing right next to it.Come to think of it I guess you could have a pin. The Marshall would tend it and he’d wear gloves and a mask. The real issue will be travel.

Now LA County is saying statements were not clear - possible reopenings. County Admins, Garcetti etc, have different statements

I listened to the interviews and it wasn't clear to me that 11 conference games is on the table. The question was about 11 conference games but the response was that a conference only schedule is something that is being discussed and didn't confirm that an 11 game conference schedule was being discussed. I believe the more likely scenario being discussed is eliminating 3 non-conference games and stick to the scheduled 9 conference games. Adding two conference games doesn't serve much purpose. Eliminating 3 games does.
The most interesting part of the interview to me was that Shaw discussed the possibility of Stanford playing football even if all the students aren't back on campus. He said that it may be possible if campus is partially open that student athletes could compete in all sports. I don't know what partially open may mean but it may mean as little as certain graduate programs are back on campus then it could be possible.

There was an interview last week with a tennis player at Stanford. She’s English and stayed on campus and mentioned she is one of about 500 undergrads who stayed on campus

Taiwan pro baseball has started allowing 1000 fans to attend games, with masks and properly socially distanced. With a partial student body on campus, the students could attend football game spread throughout the stadium.

Frankly, the notion that any sport - especially a team sport - could be played anytime in the near future, seems absurd to me. At a minimum, players would need to be constantly tested....and we don't have widespread testing. And, to make sports really safe, all the players will have to have taken a vaccine. Which, could be years away. And, that's not to mention the fans in the stands.
