Few people know his first name - James.  Just as few are aware that the most home runs he ever hit in one season was 12.  His career HR total was 93.

He led the American League in HRs four years in a row from 1911-1914.  The newspapers called him "Home Run" Baker because he was the Reggie Jackson/Mr. October of the dead ball era.  In 1911, he was fourth in the league in OPS with .887, but he walloped a .956 OPS in the World Series (vs. the Giants and Christy Mathewson), hitting HRs in games two and three off of Hall of Famers Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson, the latter in a 3-2 11 inning game.  During the rain-delayed games after game three, the Philadelphia newspaper writers started referring to him as Home Run Baker.  His OPS for the 1910, 1911 and 1913 World Series was 1.095, 1.108 and 1.050.  The A's won all three World Series.

And all this was when the ball had the consistency of a doorknob.

Single best all-time sports nickname belongs to Stanford's Bill Corbus and College Football Hall of Famer: "The Baby-Faced Assassin."

49er LB Dave Wilcox "The Intimidator."
Red Grange, "Galloping Ghost"
Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis, "Mr. Inside" and "Mr. Outside"
Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch. Yes, I know where he went to college.

Hey CI what was Three Finger’s other nickname and why?

Great call and a HOFer to boot!
