Superspreader events - dabigv13 - 05-23-2020

Many of these have been covered here already, but this Salt Lake Tribune article is a good collection of many of them. The bus one was new to me.

Now a swimming party in Arkansas:

Which is too bad, because I had previously thought swimming (outdoors) would be a low risk activity since I wouldn't expect COVID-19 to survive long in a chlorinated pool.

Curious what the details of the party are.   Maybe there was some sub activity that we can hang our blame on.

Yeah, I too was sad when I saw this because I was hoping to spend some time in a pool this summer if I could find a safe way to do it.

However, I am still curious to get more details from this, if they ever emerge. People play and talk a lot at pool parties, and when I was in high school, we’d often cap it off watching a movie indoors at night. So, it is not clear to me yet that it was the swimming pool, though this is a concerning development.

Pool parties usually involve snacks, and you have to go to the restroom. And even if you are in the pool, often you're close by and talking. Or with high school kids, shouting and yelling too probably.

I think it doubtful they got it from the chlorinated pool water itself. But goes to show the danger of any sort of gathering with multiple people who aren't in a cohabitating unit.
