Any party in the US is a covid party these days. But these stories about kids betting on covid, or trying to see who gets it first, are really just about trying to find somewhere to focus our rage and helplessness in the midst of a pandemic.

Fairly typical of media and social media. Sounds like at most you have a few cretins running around out there. What a shock. With 350,000,000 people it’s gonna happen
If there is any evidence that this is a THING - something that is even modestly widespread - let’s see it.
As for these kids - if true and people didn’t know the “game” and got sick, they should be prosecuted for assault.

Not a surprise. Before there was a vaccine, mothers would hold chicken pox parties, since chicken pox tended to get worse with age. The issue of course is that we don’t know how long immunity from COVID-19 lasts. And for young people, there is a small but non-zero risk of getting severe Covid-19, or even dying, in which the party and winning the pool will be of little comfort.
