So disheartening. It goes on and on. Cause and effect. So the infestation we call the white house is attacking again.

I'm a baby boomer. We grew up in what we believed to be the best country in the world by several measurements. The space race, the priority on education and competitiveness. Now we live in a country that's been actively anti-intellectual and dumbing ourselves down, on purpose, for several decades. So we have a complete lack of leadership, horrible tribal divisions, and orders of magnitude more of this pandemic than any other nation.

I agree with what OutsiderFan posted yesterday on a different thread:

Quote:Yes, I get we are different culturally than Germany, but even given that, if the U.S. had a national plan and all elected governments took the virus seriously from the beginning, I fully believe our citizens would have largely bought in and followed directions. We’d have our epidemic under control too. Maybe the scale of our COVID-19 Epidemic and the damage it causes becomes for the U.S. what WWII was for Germany in terms of never wanting to experience such a catastrophe again, and changing to make sure we don’t.

New cases, one day last week:

Norway, 10

Denmark, 11

Sweden, 57

Germany, 298

United States, 55,442

The first four combined have population about the same as US.

No they don't.  Germany has a population of 83 million, Sweden 10 million, Denmark 6 million, and Norway 5 million.  Combined they have a population 1/3 of the US.

And yet still, on a per capita basis, they are doing almost 50-fold better than the US in new cases.

I'm going to have to start using the phrase "nuclear grade bananas" now.

Remember, any time officials are spending on this is taking away from, oh, I don't know, doing something about testing or PPE or education or the expiration of unemployment benefits or...

A POTUS who has a 33% pandemic handling approval rating now wants to be exposed as undermining the nation’s top infectious disease expert? Hopefully he doesn’t have the real nuclear codes.

Interesting theory -- time spent on trying to discredit someone is time taken away by distracting folks from addressing the pandemic. I suggested it in connection with the whole impeachment charade, though, and nobody here bought it.

But, hey, consistency is overrated...

Yeah, that impeachment thing was really a problem until [checks notes] February 5th.  Trump is now totally acquitted of all incompetence and error because the rule is that you get a 6 months free pass after impeachment to ***** up the country as much as you like.

Note: please read the above in the most sarcastic tone your imagination is capable of.

Hey, boys and girls, can you spell "non sequitur"?

How was impeachment a charade?

In any case, the notion impeachment prevented the White House from properly managing the pandemic response, holds not a micron of water.
