Millions are losing their ability to pay for health care. Let me also point out that companies are starting to convert furloughs into layoffs as it becomes clear that we will not have a "V" shaped economic recovery. This means that furloughed people, who were at least receiving health care . I'll be fortunate if I get to rehire half of my former employees. The economy won't recover until 2022, despite the many assurances and projections that we would have a "V" shaped economic recovery that would quickly bounce back to pre-pandemic levels.

Trust me, I'm not gleeful about any of this. I'm extremely vindictive when I know mistakes were made that could have been prevented. My business lost all its customers in the wake of this bullshit. Now I have to go into my savings to see if I can pull out before hitting the ground.

If anything positive is to come out of this pandemic, I expect it'll be more pressure to un-tether health insurance from employment.
I'd support that. It's a quirk of the U.S. health care system that I believe is bad for the overall economy.

Thanks. It really didn’t have to be this way, but sometimes you have to tear things down to rebuild stronger. I know we can do better than this horror show we are living, and am optimistic we will.

It came out of WWII with salary restrictions. It's long past its sell-by date.

I've tried to tamp it down, but I'm furious about the decisions that have been made to crush the economy. Hopefully, I'll get to hire back half of the people I've furloughed. Still won't have any budget (70% cut) until 2021, compensation cuts haven't been restored, work requirements have escalated dramatically and frankly, we're killing it, revenue-wise. But I'm just a little cog...

I would think that the current circumstances would establish that it is the virus that has crushed the economy. "Decisions" were made to try to re-open the economy quickly, and had to be reversed because the virus has started getting under control. When even states with the most gung-ho to prioritize the economy over suppressing the pandemic (like Florida and Texas) have had to reverse course, it really does tell you that the economy has been slammed because of the virus, not our response to it.
In fact, I would venture that even if nothing were to have been done, the economy would have been slammed because of individual actions in response to their neighbors, friends, and news. Ironically, I think it was the desire to reopen quickly and the need to close quickly after the fact that has killed our economy. I am currently on a conference call with my colleagues in Switzerland, and they are back in the office, and are able to carry out most of their daily activities with little or no restriction, because they were able to lock down hard enough to bring the pandemic under control and have driven the risk down hard.
US: 7-day rolling average: ~64,000 cases, 750 deaths (194 cases, 2.3 deaths per million population)
Switzerland: 7-day rolling average 93 cases, 0 deaths (9 cases, 0 deaths per million population)
If you wanted to bet on the economies of the respective countries, which would you feel better about?

Can I take South Korea, Germany, Norway & China???
They were in relatively strong economic positions before the pandemic and have taken the tough and/or prudent steps to stop the spread in their countries.
All four are a vulnerable to a second wave which is why I am confident all four will keep severe restrictions on travel, commerce and other economic activities with the global COVID19 losers...Brazil, Mexico and the USA. Those types of restrictions will push the current COVID19 losers into a really bad place for the next 9-24 months.
The USA has a great history of rebounding, so the economic rebound could happen despite sitting in the COVID19 losers' bracket.
I'd bet on COVID19 crushing most global economies for the next 6-18 months, but if there are short-term winners it will be places that have already found a stable new normal by making a strong commitment to battle the cause of their economic challenges...COVID19.
