L.A. County to SIP again? - OutsiderFan - 07-16-2020
It appears we haven’t seen the worst of our pandemic yet, which means the most pain and misery is still ahead of us. The U.S. has 76,554 new infections reported today according to Johns Hopkins.
L.A. County is nearing 5k new cases a day and it’s hospitalizations are growing rapidly. It is currently at threat level Orange, but is on verge of going to Red, which means SIP. Anyone there see this happening?
As an aside, if the county goes Red, how can MLB games be played? Can athletes be allowed on campus at USC and UCLA?

Hospitalizations and ICU usage have been steady or perhaps even starting to drop actually in LA area. It seems present interventions have blunted the peak, so I doubt we will go to SIP.

I know you are "on the ground", so I take your comments with some hope, but this article (https://deadline.com/2020/07/los-angeles-county-coronavirus-new-cases-hospitalizations-record-1202987728/) seems to suggest that the bigger picture in LA county is more dire than you make it appear.

Mostly marked as checkmarks. Deaths better; hospitalizations worse; icu better; ventilators worse (but plenty). PPE available.
Note: they are almost double (4600) the maximum number (2500) of cases they aimed their contact tracing staffing levels at, but they still claim they are "initiating investigating within one day of assignment" for 96.7% of the cases. ("Hey, Joe, case #4000, John Doe is assigned to you." "I got him. I typed his name in, and clicked the box saying I've initiated my investigation into to him. I've even put his phone number into the robocall list. Who's next?")

Possible some LA county hospitals I'm not aware of are still spiking. But from what I'm seeing and hearing, last week seemed like we were still rising. This past week, hospitalizations have been trending down, and ICU flat. I've been hearing that "Here comes the sun" song a lot recently on the overhead. Perhaps hospitalizations are indeed rising, but because of younger cohort/better therapy they are also being discharged quicker than earlier. Not sure how well that is reflected in the county data, which I truthfully have not been following closely.

Interesting LA Times article suggests that it is the OC, Riverside, and San Bernardino are seeing faster spread than LA

San Bernadino in rough shape. OC was way better off but they're as bad or worse than LA now. But doesn't seem like they're growing now. Stable or perhaps improving.
