The vast majority of the population won't die from this infection, they know it, and that is the end of the story. What other effects that passing the disease on may have isn't their problem. They believe that if they get sick doing "normal" things, it isn't their fault and there is no moral stigma attached. Even people who are willing to exert some effort to avoid getting sick feel free to exempt themselves from these efforts occasionally when it is convenient.

How many of us passed on the burger, fries, and milkshake when we were young, in the name of preventing future heart disease? IOW, kids with the cavalier attitude isn't a surprise.
It's the adults who know better. They are the ones responsible for stepping in and instituting regulations that keep kids from hurting themselves. It's why there are laws mandating kids wear bike helmets now.
I don't know what the community spread is where this Georgia school is, but Ohio just traced one guy going to church to 91 infections. Maybe you can allow kids on campus, but not requiring masks and cramming them into hallways? AYFKM?!?!!?
The adults should be absolutely flogged for putting not just kids, but the whole community at more risk of infection and prolonging the agony for all of us.
Maybe we wouldn't need to shut the country down for a month with a national mask requirement? Mississippi's Governor just signed mask mandate for that state.

I dunno. I recall a series of disgusting/terrible/awful/jaw-dropping decisions made by school administrators. That they would punish 1A events makes sense. No adult in a school wants to allow children free expression. Why would they? And among the high-quality, hard-working, honest and competent administrators and officials, you have quite a few who are godawful.
I had a heinously bad one, doubled as football coach and P.E. coach. He was a young man, mid-20s at the time. He worked in both the San Jose Unified and Santa Clara Unified school districts in very high positions. He recently retired. His behind-the-back nickname among staff and teachers was "Sith Lord."

Do you think we'll get stories about schools that re-open and make it through a week, or two, or three . . . without having to shut down? Maybe that will never happen. Maybe no school will succeed at that; or maybe those that do will be completely ignored by MSM.
BTW, I'll just slip this in here because (a) it's not worth a separate thread, and (b) not sure how to embed video, so this may not work at all.
Anyway, the attached harkens back to the discussion here about naming the virus. Never agreed with sentiment here that calling it Wuhan Virus was somehow racist . . . guess I wasn't/am not completely alone in that belief.

This wasn't one out of the thousands in Georgia picked at random. This was a particular school for which a) images showing a lack of social distancing came out b) the school district decided to punish students who published photos showing the lack of social distancing.

That is hilarious! Right up there with the young woman who mimics Trump's idiosyncracies (that's a euphemism) when re-enacting some of his statements. She is very talented and never fails to make me chuckle.

Saw an interview with a GA representative who setup a hotline. Kids don't want to talk about the situation because they might get bullied. Teachers don't want to talk about the situation because their career might be in jeopardy from higher-ups.
One email from a diabetic teacher said her colleague who tested positive 7 days ago came to work because she felt fine and wanted to help out. Apparently there's no rules in place for positive testers. Another email said his class rosters were 30+ students and there was no way on earth he'd be able to socially distance that many kids.
