Tiger starts out pretty well, despite challenges hitting the fairway.

2-under for the day, three back of the leader Jason Day.

I like Koepka and Schauffele.

Amazing about Spieth. Last year the iconoclastic Chamblee on Golf Channel documented players that seem to lose it almost overnight. He listed Anthony Kim, Duval, Yani Tsing, Lydia Ko, Chip Beck and others. He was right on. Spieth plays like he is a bundle of nerves. Today he was on the range for two hours after his round. Perhaps it's time to see a shrink, change coaches or get his UT degree. Seems like a great kid who will stay and sign the last youngster's autograph book.
I love Bryson. Just let it rip. Other likes are Lowry, Casey and Hatton. Don't much care for Dustin and Woods.

I like Bryson's physics-based approach (he studied physics at SMU). He tries to reduce the number of moving parts; e.g., he has the largest grips possible to hold the clubs in his palms rather than his fingertips and he doesn't break his wrists on the turn. When I took up the game, I never really liked the fact that the clubs were different lengths and I had to learn 14 different swing planes. Apparently, he's solved that problem by making his irons/wedges the same length, all 37.5".
He has six PGA tour wins, best finish in a major is 15th. I wonder if he can maintain the 260 pound weight and still be effective... I know he did it on purpose to increase swing speed, but still.

I think Porky Oliver weighed more than 260 but his physique was a bit different. He’s the guy who took a 17(or so) on #17 at Cypress.

I think Craig Stadler weighed 250 when he won the Masters. Must have learned to eat at USC. Daly was probably three bills at his heaviest.

if the tour statistics are to be believed, at Harding
Woods 313.8 ypd
DeChamslow 310.4 ypd
Ol' Cripple still has a little game left.
I like Koepka and others strategy since last year when paired with DeChamslow. get put on the clock on hole #1 to make DeChamslow speed up. DeChamslow is perhaps the only player ever who could make Phogge's old favorite, Cary Middlecoff, seem speedy.
last year at East Lake in twosomes, Kokrak and Glover played the round in 3 hours. DeChamslow and Reavie teed off 20 minutes later and finished more than 2 hours later. glacial pace on good days...

Koepka seems like a colossal a-hole. I always root against him. Not because of this. I know nothing about “DeChamslow”. I’d love to see this become a Tiger vs Rory battle. Not likely, but it would be great theater.

I've only come across caddies who've looped for Koepka. they liked him. I will watch/read more. I like how he handles himself in majors. goes about his business and lets the announcers hyperventilate. most important shot to him seems to be the next one.
they did a player poll on least liked player on tour (Patrick Reed not eligible) and DeChamslow and Rory Sabbatini tied. Rory is the only player I've seen make a hole-in-one on tour and go for a high five and everyone in the group look away including his caddie.

Forgot about that Rory. I meant McElroy, of course.
Yeah, I don’t have any real reason for Koepka. He just rubs me wrong. Great thing about sports is you don’t have to have any real reasons to like or not like a player or team!
Funny what you said on the tour question. I take it Reed was not eligible cause he’d run away with the prize. (I think they did something similar about cheating and NCAA hoops coaches - excepting Calipari, cause, well you know why!) I also thought that Bubba Watson is quite unpopular. I think I once read where they did a poll asking for who would be the person they’d be least likely to help if that player was stranded on a desert island )or something like that) - Bubba “won”

Rough day for Tiger; +2 for the day and even for the tournament. Makes the cut by 1 stroke, but 8 back from the leader.

Hilarious!
I thought I read where DJ was somewhat untrusted/disliked on tour because he has been known to go after Tour colleagues' significant others/wives! No clue if that's true or apocryphal, but folks here might.
P.S. Wlat was a piece of work. And IIRC, the backstory on why Pitt was happy to see him go is also rather salacious. But I've spread enough rank, unsupported gossip for one post . . .

Didn't know that about Bubba in the 2015 poll. I saw the Feherty interviews with all three. PReed has a rep as a cheater dating back to his college days, has a troubled home life, brash, alienates people. Starts sentences with "I'm from Texas, so...", curses on TV, snaps at fans, clearly considered himself a "legend of the game" after he won three tournaments before age 24. Only saving grace is a 7-4-1 Ryder Cup record, which most of his peers can't match.
Keopka comes across as a jerk, flat out.
Technically speaking, the five slowest golfers are (1) J. B. Holmes, (2) DeChambeau, (3) Ben Crane, (4) Jason Day and (5) Jordan Speith.
J. B. Holmes, 79 seconds for a putt:

You guys would have loved Julius Boros. Get the club, step up and hit it with a cigarette dangling and on to the green. Let's finish fast and have a few cocktails.

Lloyd Mangrum called Mr Icicle because he was so calm. Won 36 tournaments died at 59 after ironically a number of heart attacks.

DJ I assume is Dustin Johnson? If so, he should be careful. I suspect Wayne still could bury a slap shot.....

Didn’t Trevino also play very fast? He and Watson were my favorites

Harding is a tough course, from any tee. If you want an enjoyable day on a City course try Lincoln. No rough, plenty of scenery including the 17th hole that has a view better than any on the Monterey Peninsula, interesting holes (if short!) and did I say it's short?
If you want tough try Gleneagles in McLaren Park. Alister McKenzie nine holer with alternate tees on each hole to make an interesting 18. It's a bastard. Then there is the perfect par 27 nine in Golden Gate Park run by the First Tee. None of the Country Club BS and attitude.
And fee reasonable.
