On the one hand, yeah!, I guess. Initial claims were 963,000, the first time claims were at less than 1 million in 20(!) weeks. Continuing claims dropped to 28.3 million (down about 3 million).

On the other hand, even at the peak of the great recession, new claims for unemployment were less than 1 million.

And average initial claims for unemployment were about 1/4th of this week's number pre-pandemic.
